Some chapters will be flashbacks to Tatum's freshman year and Emily's sophomore year so you can see what happened during their relationship and eventually, why it ended. I'll let you know when these flashbacks occur.

For those of you that read my last book "Melting Her Frozen Heart", you know that I'm currently playing senior assassin and I GOT MY TARGET OUT TODAY!!!

So proud of myself lol.

Also if you see btb, that just stands for a behind the back shot. I don't know if any of you know all the lacrosse slang so I'll translate it for you haha.

*Flashback to 2022. A week after Tatum and Emily met at tryouts*

Emily POV:

I woke up extra early on this Saturday morning to go out to the fields. With the amount of D1 scouts I have breathing down my neck, I need to stay as sharp as possible. It was only 7am when I arrived at the field. I have an early birthday so I got my license just a couple of weeks ago.

I popped open the trunk of my car, grabbing the bucket of balls and the cloth cover for the goal. The cover had target sized holes where you could shoot the ball through. I grabbed all those items and closed my trunk before walking over to the turf.

The turf is open for public use on weekends from 6am to 6pm. I predicted that I would be the only one here because of how early it was. Turn's out, I wasn't the only one getting some early practice in.

As I walked over to the field, I saw a young girl scooping up a ground ball, dodging around cones, and then taking a shot. As I got closer, I could see that the girl was Tatum Reese, the only freshman who earned a spot on varsity this year.

She was a very good player for her age. I was genuinely impressed when I saw her at tryouts but she still had a long way to go before earning a starting spot. I smiled to myself as I walked closer to where Tatum was practicing. She may not be at the level to have a starting spot yet but she is definitely getting there. She's putting in the work.

"Wow I'm impressed." I said as Tatum took another shot. She glanced over and smiled as I placed my bag down. I grabbed my stick and goggles before jogging over to Tatum.

"What are you doing up this early? I thought I'd have the field all to myself." She said with a laugh.

"That's what I was thinking too. I guess we both had the same idea." I replied.

"Great minds think alike." Tatum said with a smirk. I gestured towards the cones before speaking again.

"You keep putting in the work like this and you'll have a starting spot in no time." I stated.

"You really think so?" Tatum asked.

"Yes definitely. You're an amazing lacrosse player Tatum. You impress me." I stated. Tatum blushed and looked away. I smiled softly to myself. Her reaction was adorable.

"You impress me too." Tatum whispered. That made me smile from ear to ear.

"Can I practice with you?" I asked.

"Yeah of course." Tatum said with a smile, finally looking at me again.

"We can do some 1v1 drills. Work on faking out the defender." I stated.

"Sounds good to me." Tatum replied.

We quickly picked up the cones and any stray balls before moving them aside. Tatum then took a singular ball in her stick and jogged over to the top of the 12 yard arc. I jogged over, taking a spot across from her on the 8 yard arc.
