you told me of the time you visited venice;
breakfast with your hosts first morning
you dished a slice of layered breakfast surprise,
cake-like, wedged onto your thin breakfast plate
...and your mother dished daintily
(the two of you a well mannered duo)
the rest of the breakfast goers had pancakes
minus slice
while yours were small slices stacked,
minus pancake
i still laugh every time
