war machines

This chance we have is fleeting,
You're not even eating much anymore
And your eyes haven't lit up
Since the day we had to split up from our home

And all we see is death and destruction,
We are war machines made to function
In a way we weren't meant to.
I remember saying,
"We're not war machines, we are flesh and blood,
We won't give up."
But now, I calm you down,
Tell you to pull the trigger now,
Hear the scream, cry and crash,
See the bullets race around
We're pacing now
I don't know how
We ended up staining what was once clean.
You and me,
We're nothing but war machines.

Cry as you bandage my broken arm,
We both know we're dying with broken hearts
There's only only one way to escape this,
It's a chance,
Let's take it.
We won't have to agonise over the bullets
If they're in our hearts,
And we stop breathing.
Maybe, just maybe death's greeting
Will be more merciful
Than a rich man's glare
Barely looking down on our bloody bones,
Like we're not even there.

And all we are, are shells of the men above,
The pillars who do nothing, yet have completed control over us.
We're not human
Anymore, we're something terrible in between,
You look at me
With desperate eyes
And a slight fire,
I haven't seen it in forever.
You said, "we'll be together
In life, but in death we'll separate,
Go our own Hellish ways,
And if we wait out these torturous days,
Maybe heaven won't be so unreachable".
I said "you're being unreasonable,"
You shove my gun to my chest
Pleaded, "just give it your best,
For me,
For me."

I said to you,
We're not war machines,
We are flesh and blood,
So we won't give up,
Now that I've calmed down,
I swear we'll make it out
And we'll curse every rich house
That hasn't been demolished,
So pretty and polished,
In white and gold.
With broken teeth and deathly cold,
Blood slipping from my mouth,
I scream, "Do it now!"
Hear the cries,
Ended a life,
I feel it inside
That heavy pain,
Pounding again,
See the bullets race around,
We're pacing now,
I won't forgive how
They stained what was once so clean
You and me,
We're nothing but war machines.
