THE FIVE of us trailed behind the group ahead, staying just out of earshot. Itachi, however, had joined them, effortlessly blending into their conversation about why they wanted to become heroes.
I stopped in my tracks when All Might suddenly appeared in front of the other group.
"Oh! Midoriya, kid! Found you!" What the hell is happening? "Wanna... eat lunch with me?"
"Sure..."
I narrowed my eyes at the two of them, recalling Pain's orders.
"Find as much information on this child you speak of and his relationship with the number one hero."
I made eye contact with Itachi, subtly signaling him to keep our two other classmates distracted while I skillfully tailed All Might and Midoriya, dragging Deidara with me. We followed them toward the staff break room, sticking to the shadows. Once the duo entered, I turned down the hallway beside it, spotting a vent positioned high on the wall.
"Deidara, I'm gonna need your help here," I said, gesturing him over. He sauntered toward me with a cocky smirk plastered across his face.
"You finally need my help, huh? I knew this day would come! But I guess even someone like you has to rely on a genius like me every once in a whi—OW! WHAT WAS THAT FOR?!"
"For being a fucking loser," I muttered, rubbing my knuckles. "Now hurry up and make a clay spider. We're wasting time and information here."
I pulled a burner phone out of my bag, making sure it was on airplane mode with no SIM card before glancing up at Deidara, who was already molding a small spider out of clay. Quickly, I connected the AirPods I had to the phone, handing one to him so we could both listen while recording the conversation. As soon as the spider was ready, I attached the phone to it and let it crawl up into the vent.
"So... how exactly are we supposed to find the right room?" Deidara asked, watching the spider disappear into the ductwork.
I resisted the urge to smack him again. "Well, dipshit, one of the break room walls is right in front of us. If this vent is here, there's a high chance that if you just make the spider go straight, it'll lead us to the room. 🤯"
