A few drinks later I had found an empty round booth in the corner. I quickly slid into it, claiming the table for my team. I looked around as I nursed my fourth drink, fingers tapping lightly on the glass.
Gaz and Roach were up at the bar facing away from me. They were ordering another round and I could hear them laughing with each other. Gaz clapped his arm across Roach's back at whatever he had said, even the bartender threw his head back in laughter. I smiled softly to myself as I watched.
I spotted Soap's mohawk bobbing amongst the mass of people now dancing, I could see the top of Kara's head just barely as she danced with him. She was clearly more into him than he was her but Soap seemed content nonetheless.
My eyes tracked Ghost when I finally saw him as he walked across the large room on the far side. Everyone stopped to look at him as he passed by, either stepping back in caution or eyeing him like he was their next meal. He was tall, built, and mysterious as all hell from an outsiders perspective. I could understand the appeal.
He walked up to the far side of the bar, likely to grab another drink as a woman walked up to him. She was tall and lithe, smiling seductively at him as she spoke. I observed as he looked her up and down, turning to grab his drink from the bartender before turning back to her. I watched as he tapped his pointer finger on his glass as he held it. I paused when I realized I was basically doing the same thing.
I glanced down at my glass. I wondered if it was an unconscious manifestation of anxiety or simple restlessness for Ghost. He didn't strike me as the type to be comfortable in a room full of people, especially one where the senses were dulled. At the same time, he also did strike me as the type to never sit still for too long, he would've been a terrible sniper. I looked around again at my team, my eyes falling on Ghost and his new companion last before I zoned out completely.
Ghost was an enigma to me, one I desperately wanted to understand better but also wanted nothing to do with. I hated him, but I also didn't want to hate him either. It was a vicious cycle really. I was curious, call it nosey if you will, about him but at the same time, he absolutely drove me mad.
Roach and Gaz startled me out of whatever trance I was in. My gaze training on them as they slid into the right side of booth to sit with me.
"Oo you've got your eye on the L.T. huh?" Roach asked, having followed my gaze and nudged me in the ribs with his elbow playfully.
I contorted my face in disgust, my eyes finding Ghost and the woman across the bar again. "I'd rather gouge out my own eyes." I said shortly before taking a long gulp of my drink.
Roach snorted and shook his head at me. "Siren, you're not fooling any of us, you watch him more than anyone else. We know you're crushing on him."
I turned to him, shock showing on my face at the audacity he had. "I'm a sniper and a medic, it's literally in both of my job descriptions to watch over you, idiot." I paused. "You can't be serious though."
He shrugged, a smirk creeping onto his face.
I threw my head back and groaned. "I can't stand the man. He's irritating and doesn't trust me. I'm the type of person that gives what she gets. He hates me, I'll hate right back."
Gaz elbowed Roach in his ribs, speaking lowly to him but I could still hear it. "Dude, she's been flirting with Soap, c'mon drop it."
I choked on my drink, doing my best to not spit it out all over the table. "You've got to be kidding me!" I laughed, setting my glass down with a loud clink. "He's like a brother to me. Y'all gotta stop this. I don't have a thing for anyone here. If you don't believe me, ask either of them."
