As Kairos and Amiriah stood hand in hand on the royal platform, bathed in the lingering applause and the glow of admiration from the gathered guests, Amiriah's heart raced with a mix of exhilaration and underlying unease. Kairos's firm squeeze on her hand offered a reassuring anchor amidst the swirling emotions.
"Thank you, everyone," Kairos's voice resonated with confidence, his words weaving a tapestry of unity and celebration among supernaturals. The crowd began to disperse, drifting back into animated conversations and the graceful swirl of the dance floor. Kairos guided Amiriah down the platform steps, their path intercepted by well-wishers eager to extend their congratulations and catch the prince's eye.
In the midst of the congratulations and adoring gazes, Amiriah's smile wavered as her mind wandered into a labyrinth of self-doubt. She stole glances at the other women in their elaborate gowns, their confident poise and whispered conversations invoking a quiet insecurity within her. She compared herself—no wolf heritage, no vampire powers, uncertain of any innate abilities—to these supernaturals who seemed to embody power effortlessly. She, on the other hand, felt like an outsider, unsure of where she truly belonged.
She couldn't shake the nagging questions. Did Kairos realize her lack of supernatural heritage? Would he still desire her once he uncovered her perceived weaknesses? The fear of rejection gnawed at her, threading through her thoughts like a persistent shadow despite the joyful facade she maintained.
As King Karson approached with his warm embrace and familial words, Amiriah forced a smile, masking the turmoil beneath. "Thank you, Your Majesty," she responded politely, though inside, she felt a knot of uncertainty tighten.
King Karson's jovial demeanor softened. "Please, call me Karson. Tonight is about celebration and unity," he insisted warmly.
"Amiriah!" A familiar voice cut through her thoughts, and she twirled around with wide eyes filled with excitement. Spotting her older brother Elijah rushing towards her through the dispersing crowd brought an immediate surge of joy.
"Excuse me, Your Majesty." Amirirah rushed out with excitement. "Elijah!" She squealed, her voice carrying across space. She had momentarily forgotten the length of her gown and nearly tripped in her haste, quickly gathering the fabric to prevent a mishap. Racing into his awaiting embrace, she buried her face against his chest as his strong arms wrapped around her, lifting her slightly off the ground.
"I missed you," she mumbled softly into his chest, the words muffled by her emotions.
"I missed you so much," Elijah replied, his voice filled with affection as he pulled her back gently, planting a tender kiss on her forehead.
"Adonis! Naomi!" Her joy multiplied as she spotted her other siblings walking up behind Elijah. Releasing herself from Elijah's embrace, she turned to embrace Adonis and Naomi with equal enthusiasm. Amiriah's heart swelled with happiness as she embraced Adonis and Naomi, feeling a rush of warmth and familiarity wash over her. Adonis, tall and sturdy with a quiet strength, engulfed her in a protective hug, his presence reassuring in its solidity. Naomi, petite yet spirited, squeezed her tightly, peppering her cheek with quick, affectionate kisses.
"Amiriah, you were stunning out there," Adonis remarked, his deep voice filled with brotherly pride. "You've really made an impression tonight."
Amiriah blushed at the compliment, grateful for their unwavering support. "Thank you, Adonis. It means a lot coming from you."
Naomi pulled back slightly, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Oh, you should have seen the looks on everyone's faces."
Naomi nodded eagerly, pointing over to a nearby table where their parents sat. Amiriah turned to glance at Kairos, who gave her a small nod of encouragement. She couldn't contain her joy and started walking quickly towards her family, trying not to run but finding it difficult to contain her excitement.
