Maddy's POV:

Coming back to Iowa City was upsetting as we didn't get to bring home the championship trophy. I was thankfully done with classes already, but Carter and most of my teammates still had one or two more finals to take this coming week. I sat on the couch, scrolling through my phone as Carter was in her room studying. It was weird not having practice or class but it felt nice to slow down for once.

"Maddy can we talk?", Carter spoke peaking her head out of her room.

"Yeah what's up?", I replied, following my friend into her room.

"I've been thinking a lot since the tournament started and I think I may want to transfer", Carter softly stated.

"Carter what? Why?", I said, as I was shocked by my friend's statement.

"I didn't play and it's going to be the same next year. I love it here but I also love playing basketball and I'm just not getting minutes", Carter explained.

"Carter were going to be sophomores. Jada and Hannah didn't get in much either. I don't want to lose you", I spoke.

"That's the thing. Hannah will start next year because she was behind Mon. Jadas behind Kate and she doesn't mind, she loves Iowa and is staying but I'm behind you, Gabbie, then Sydney. I'm not going to play until our Junior and Senior year Mads", Carter spoke.

"Okay but when Gabbie leaves, I'm sure you will get way more playing time", I explained.

"Maddy I'm not going to try to compete with my older sister for playing time", she quietly said.

"Did you enter the portal yet or talk to Coach?", I asked.

"No not yet. I wanted to talk to you about it first. Sydney supports anything I do but I just don't want to be a bench player my whole career", Carter stated.

"Carter I promise you will regret leaving. We are building something so special here. Next year is going to be different I promise", I said.

"I know I probably sound dumb wanting to leave a program that just made it to the national championship, but I just want to play it killed me this year watching you start and I just sat there", Carter spoke.

"I want you to stay but if you want to transfer I want you to know I'll fully support you and be your biggest cheerleader", I smiled.

"Thanks Mads I knew I could talk to you about this", Carter said, pulling me into a hug.

"Who the hell am I going to live with if you go", I joked.

"Hey I'm not gone yet but I fully expected you to move in with Kate", Carter laughed.

"Honestly we haven't talked about it", I spoke.

"So you sneaking into her room the night of the championship game wasn't about discussing living situations for next year?", Carter laughed.

"No it wasn't. Wait actually how the hell do you know about that?", I asked.

"Everyone heard about you and Gabbie sneaking into Kate and Caitlin's. We get you and Kate but we can't figure out Caitlin and Gabbie. Unless?", Carter joked.
