Yan Zhao grasped the fox's tail, which felt soft and fluffy, with a pleasing texture of both softness and elasticity. She was quite taken with it.

Unfortunately, before she could enjoy it properly, the furry bundle slipped from her palm in a flash.

The little fox withdrew its tail and awkwardly turned its body in Yan Zhao's embrace. After a moment, it peeked out its small, pointy head and stretched its neck to look around.

The pursuers evidently hesitated to show themselves while Yan Zhao was present, momentarily retreating, which confirmed the truth the fox had overheard that day.

Cautiously, it extended half of its body, using its front paws to brace itself on Yan Zhao's shoulder. Its triangular ears twitched sensitively, catching every rustle and sound from all directions.

The close proximity allowed Yan Zhao to feel the fox's fur brushing against her cheek, causing a ticklish sensation.

Seeing a serious expression on such a tiny fox was unexpected, and Yan Zhao couldn't help but smile. She lifted the fox by its scruff and met its gaze. "You're afraid of those bad people, but not me? Do you think I'm easy to bully too?"

The fox's eyes were green, resembling the most precious emeralds, with sunlight reflecting in them, making them incredibly beautiful.

It couldn't speak and showed no hostility, but clearly disliked being held by the scruff. Its small paws flailed and struggled to escape.

Yan Zhao frowned, released her grip, and the fox fell to the ground, yelping in pain from the injury on its belly.

Yan Zhao expected it to run away immediately, but the clever little thing crouched beside her feet, not leaving.

She lifted her foot and nudged its chin with the tip of her shoe, which the fox disdainfully avoided.

"I just saved you, and now you're complaining?" Yan Zhao smiled, clearly amused by the little creature.

She deliberately walked past the fox to test it.

The fox immediately got up and stumbled after her.

Injured on its belly, it couldn't move quickly, fearing it would be left behind.

If it fell into the hands of those people from earlier, it would face a dead end.

The sect higher-ups used Yan Zhao as bait to lure out the demonic forces. As long as the fox followed Yan Zhao, the assassins sent by Bu Dong Hou would not dare to act recklessly.

But each step the fox took brought it pain, and uneven terrain made its progress difficult.

Seeing Yan Zhao moving further away, the fox stood on a muddy embankment, anxiously pacing in place.

Determined, it gathered its strength and leaped down.

The anticipated pain and injury did not come. It fell into Yan Zhao's open hands, landing in her thin embrace.

Yan Zhao rubbed its little head, opened her jacket, and tucked the fox into her pocket. She said, "If you want to follow me, you must acknowledge me as your master and listen to me from now on."

The fox glanced at her with its ears drooped, ignoring her words as if it couldn't hear.

Yan Zhao continued, "If you don't answer, I'll take it as agreement."

The fox remained silent.

It was too weak to resist and closed its eyes to focus on healing its belly wound.
