November 28, 2024I had my phone pressed between my shoulder and ear while I tried to get Amora dressed, but of course, she was more focused on her iPad.
"Happy Thanksgiving, my baby," Mama's voice came through all sweet and cheerful.
"Happy Thanksgiving, Mama," I replied, glancing at Amora, who immediately started whining when I stepped in front of her iPad.
"Mama, I can't see!" she complained, pushing her little body against mine to try and move around me.
"Hold on, Mama," I said into the phone, narrowing my eyes at Amora.
"Cut it out," I told her, giving her my serious face. She pouted but finally stopped moving. I shook my head, switching the phone to speaker.
"So, are you gonna tell me the truth?" Mama's voice came through loud and clear.
I blinked, still half-focused on getting Amora's shoes on. "About what?"
Mama wasn't about to waste time. "You went to Houston for Miss Doctor. Are y'all together?"
"Mommy and BB be kissing, Nana!" she announced proudly, her little face lit up like she had just revealed some huge secret.
I froze, closing my eyes and pinching the bridge of my nose. Seriously, Amora?
"What else they do?" she asked, full of curiosity.
"They pee in the bed," she added, if I hear her say this one more time i'm going to scream.
I rolled my eyes and let out a heavy sigh, trying not to laugh.
"Alright, that's enough, Amora," I muttered, slipping her shoes on before taking the phone off speaker and putting it back to my ear.
"Hmmm..." Mama dragged it out, like she was processing everything.
I shook my head, already knowing what was coming. "What, Mama?"
"Already fornicating, huh?" she asked, her tone way too casual for the bomb she just dropped.
I couldn't help but laugh. "Mom, you did not have to call it that!" I said, shaking my head. "But no, we're not doing that, and yes, we're together."
Of course, I was lying through my teeth, but Mama didn't need to know all that.
Some things are better left unsaid, especially when Amora was already out here spilling everything.
I hung up the phone with Mama, shaking my head. "Alright, baby girl, how do you want your hair today?"
"Like BB," Amora mumbled, still glued to her iPad.
I raised an eyebrow. "And how's that?"
"Up and down, Mama," she said without even looking up.
I nodded, grabbing the spray bottle to start on her hair. Just then, Lauren strolled in, dressed in a yellow blouse and jeans. I looked at my yellow dress, and we both cracked up.
