Sasuke landed silently on the next rooftop, his eyes narrowing as the chill of the Mantle air cut through his cloak. The city streets below were quiet, save for the faint sounds of civilians trying to go about their lives under the ever-present threat of Grimm. His clones continued to fend off small packs of Grimm near the external walls alongside the Mantle huntsmen, but it was a manageable task.
Yet, there was something unsettling in the air—an instinct, a sense that someone was watching him. Despite the height and distance, his heightened senses picked up on it. He paused, scanning the surrounding area with a sharp gaze.
"..." Sasuke, his hand instinctively brushing against the hilt of his sword.
He reached out with his Sharingan, eyes sweeping across the dimly lit rooftops and shadowed alleys. The streets seemed normal at first glance, but Sasuke's finely tuned instincts told him otherwise. Whoever was watching him wasn't doing it carelessly; they were careful, deliberate.
Sasuke remained still for a moment longer, allowing his Rinnegan to activate and further expand his perception. He didn't see them yet, but he could feel their presence—like a faint ripple in the air. He smirked slightly.
"So, you're trying to hide..." he muttered, eyes narrowing as his senses locked onto the general direction where the feeling was strongest.
Sasuke's senses sharpened, honing in on the fleeing figure as soon as he made his move. He pushed off the rooftop, moving with the grace and speed of a shadow in pursuit, his eyes flickering between the Sharingan and Rinnegan as he tracked the figure's aura. His years of battle-hardened instinct told him this wasn't just some random spy—it was someone familiar.
The aura, though faint, carried a chaotic and unsettling energy. Sasuke's brow furrowed, memories flooding back from the fall of Beacon, when he had faced countless enemies during the fight for the Relic. He clenched his jaw as recognition hit him, the aura growing more distinct the closer he got.
'That bastard...' Sasuke cursed silently, realizing exactly who he was dealing with.
Tyrian Callows.
Of course, it was him—who else would have the audacity to lurk in the shadows, watching and waiting for an opportunity? Sasuke recalled the battle at Beacon and the fight back at Haven vividly—Tyrian had been a wild, unpredictable force, as dangerous as he was unhinged.
The crazed assassin had been working for Salem, striking from the shadows and spreading chaos wherever he went.
Sasuke hadn't forgotten the twisted joy Tyrian seemed to derive from his violence, the mad gleam in his eyes as he fought.
Now here he was again, hiding like a rat in Mantle, likely up to no good.
Sasuke's eyes narrowed further, and he quickened his pace, moving with deadly precision as he zeroed in on Tyrian's location. He leaped between rooftops effortlessly as the chill air bit at his skin. The assassin was fast, but he wouldn't be able to shake Sasuke now that he'd been locked onto. Tyrian's erratic movements only served to further confirm his identity—he was a snake, slithering in and out of sight, but Sasuke knew his tricks now.
As Sasuke drew closer, he felt Tyrian's aura pulsing with that same frenzied energy—chaotic, unpredictable, yet distinct. Tyrian was trying to escape, but Sasuke could feel the faint twinges of excitement laced in his aura like he was savoring the thrill of the chase.
"You're not getting away this time..." Sasuke muttered to himself, eyes flashing with cold determination.
With a flick of his wrist, Sasuke conjured a shadow clone, sending it ahead to cut off Tyrian's path. The assassin might be cunning, but Sasuke wasn't about to let him slip through his fingers. He'd already let too many of Salem's lackeys escape in the past, and this time, there would be no mercy.
