Asher stared at Naomi, too shocked to say a word. She held his gaze and he could see her confusion in her eyes. He felt Anita trying to get to him in the mind link and he blinked and shook his head slightly, his gaze still on Naomi. “You don’t want to talk about the party?” he asked.
Naomi shrugged. “I didn’t really stay till the end, I left half way so…”
The more she spoke, the shocker Asher became. He has been practicing for a long time in order to perform group compelling. This was his first time trying it out and if everyone was talking about the party, it means that he succeeded and yet, here she was, still remembering what she did. It wasn’t supposed to be so, she was supposed to believe that she stayed till the end and she was also not to recall that they have been absent in school but not only did she ask where they were, she also remembered what she did that day. “Naomi,” Asher called, and her eyes snapped back to him from Anita. “You enjoyed the party that day, and you shouldn’t talk about any other thing but it,” his eyes flickered red for a second and he waited to see her reaction.
Naomi frowned, “why?” she asked. “I was enjoying myself at the party but like I said, I left half way, and also, why am I not supposed to talk about any other thing? You guys have not been in school for the past five days, I am just asking because I cared and because I see her as my friend. But…” she raised her eyes and glanced at Anita and back to Asher, “if you think I’m overstepping my boundary, then I am sorry and I assure that it will not happen again.” And with that, she walked away. Justin glanced at Asher and because the compelling refrained him from talking about anything but the party, he silently followed Naomi.
“What just happened?” Anita asked, not caring if any one heard them, at most, Asher would just compel them to forget. “Why would you talk to her like that and in case you don’t know, you totally annoyed her.”
Asher was too shock to respond. His mind was running around, if the group compelling didn’t affect her, it would be understandable but he had clearly compelled only her just now and it still didn’t work? Never in his life had he heard that a human could resist the compelling of a Nightwalker, who is she?
“I’m talking to you, Asher,” Anita demanded when the man won’t even look at her or answer her question.
Asher’s eyes blinked then and he glanced at Anita, he opened his mouth to speak but no words came out. At the end, he just raised his hand to excuse himself and walk off. He saw Naomi heading to the library and intended to follow her. He planned on cornering her in the library and compelling her once more. He needs to be sure it was happening before he could believe it. However, just as her hand reached for the doorknob, the door was opened and three girls walked out, one of them brushing her shoulder against Naomi’s and only glanced at her to scoff before walking off with her friends.
Asher hid his presence immediately and they walked right by him without detecting him and his eyes went back to Naomi. He expected her to go into the library now but instead she was frozen on her spot, her body slightly shaking. The scene reminded him of that night in the woods before she started screaming. He feared that whatever had happened to her that night was having a revisit and wanted to rush to her, however, she got a hold of herself and she turned back to stare at the leaving backs of the girls still going down the hallway. It was not because she looked at them, but it was the way she looked at them, the obvious look of fear in her eyes made Asher knew that something was terribly wrong.

Naomi walked out of the cafeteria feeling angry and for the first time, not on herself but on a boy. Who does he think he is? She was only showing care, after all, wasn’t he the one always rushing to protect and defend her, what wrong did she do by asking why they haven’t been in school, isn’t it because she cared? Why does he have to tell her that she was not supposed to speak of anything else but the party?
“Ugh,” she growled in annoyance, storming down to her locker.
“Naomi?” she heard and turned to see Justin jogging to catch up to her. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” she replied but her tone was angry. Even she was surprised at why she was feeling that angry. No matter what anybody does to her, she has never felt the kind of anger she was feeling at the moment and she couldn’t understand what Asher could have done exactly to derive such anger from her. He had only indirectly told her to mind her business, why does she have to be so angry about it?
“Whoa, easy,” Justin giggled softly, “why are you so angry?”
“Didn’t you see the way he talked to me? Like, why is he so full of himself?”
“Who are you talking about?”
Naomi glanced at him like he had gone crazy, “who was I talking to just now?”
“Oh, you mean Asher. The party was great, so I will understand if he just wants people to talk about their fun. I mean, I had a good time too.”
“Oh please, stop talking like you were there all through.”
“Of course I was,” Justin smiled, “where else would I have been?”
Naomi glanced at him, surprised to hear that from him. “Excuse me, Justin, you were there till the end?”
“Of course,” Justin nodded.
“Then who has been asking me for the past five days while I had to run off and if I wasn’t hearing him when he was calling for me to stop as I was rushing into the woods?”
“Huh?” Justin seemed confused and Naomi too was confused. She knew she wasn’t imagining it. Justin had obviously followed her that night and she had heard him calling for her to slow down and tell him where she was going. Even the next day in school, he didn’t drop it, and had kept asking her why she had suddenly ran off that night for the past five days and now, he is telling her that he was in the party all through and with no memory or whatsoever of what had really happened? “Oh, I have to go, I promised Stacy that I would help her with her math homework before the period. I will catch you later, okay?” and with that, he walked away.
Naomi stared at his leaving back, to stunned to say a word. At the end, she just shrugged and changed her mind from going to her locker to the library instead. All through her walk there, she was thinking of what happened in the cafeteria. Everywhere had been noisy as usual but everyone had their own discussion, then Asher and Anita walked in and Asher said what he said and everyone started talking about the party, a discussion that was already forgotten four days ago. What really happened? Why did Justin forget all of a sudden what really happened that night? And why is no one else asking why they haven’t been in school?
As she reached to open the library door, the door opened and the three she devils walked out. They ignored her and before passing her, Trisha bumped her shoulder against hers and scoffed at her. However, she didn’t remember that, the moment Trisha’s shoulder touched hers, she zoned out. Three girls were riding a monster truck, having the fun of their lives and drinking. The bottle of the one driving fell out of her hand and instead of asking her friends to pick it up for her, she decided to do it herself and at that moment, a school bus that seemed to have failed break was horning and speeding towards them. The girls have seen the danger and was screaming but they couldn’t react on time and the car crashed into them. Trisha was the driver and the bus hit her side, killing her on spot while the other two was fatally wounded.
She glanced behind her at their leaving backs, the fear evident in her eyes as realized that the accident is only few hours from now as they had on the very clothes they were wearing in her mind.
