It's Going to be Okay

(Y/n)'s POV
"I can't believe them," Anakin groaned as we walked through the Temple corridors. We had just returned from the Senate building, where we learned more details about the Chancellor's sudden death—he was killed with a lightsaber to heart before being thrown off the top of the building. "He passed away today, and already they're discussing who will replace him." Anakin was taking the news harder than I expected; he had a likeness for the Chancellor and considered him a friend, even though I rarely saw them together. It made me wonder if my arrival into his life had caused him to temporarily drift away from that friendship, leaving him with a bit of guilt now.

"That's just the way things are," I said, trying to maintain a calming tone in hopes that it would keep him calm as well. "The Republic needs a Chancellor, especially during wartime. That doesn't mean people aren't grieving or affected by his death."

He let out a soft sigh as we turned a corner, his eyes fixed ahead. "I get what you're saying, but they could have at least waited a day—not just a few hours."

I wished for nothing more than to be able to hold his hand, just to comfort him a little more, but given our circumstances, that was a luxury we couldn't have. "Who do you think could be behind this?" I wondered. After all, it was a lightsaber that delivered the fatal blow, but who among us would want to harm the Chancellor? Unless it was—

"It has to be a new Sith we're unaware of, or possibly Ventress," Anakin said without hesitation, "It's obvious, no Jedi would kill the Chancellor."

"You might be right, Ani, but remember what Master Yoda said," he had arrived much later than the rest of us. "It's not our place to investigate; he has other council members handling it." He had specifically instructed Anakin to stay away from the situation and to concentrate solely on me and my training. He had said that after my Master had somewhat lost his cool on a council member for suggesting potential suicide—but of course that wouldn't explain the lightsaber markings. Which is what Anakin had told the member while also calling him an idiot. Well...he called him something a little worse, but I refuse to repeat.

He side-glanced me with a small smile, "I like when you call me Ani," He said softly just as we reached the cafeteria. He did promise me he'd eat and rest, and despite everything that just happened, I'm relieved he's keeping his word, "But going back to the subject, I'll listen to Master Yoda and his stupid instructions, but if they don't get anywhere within a certain amount of them—I will look into it myself."

After we got our food—I got pasta salad and Anakin grabbed something that looked like mush, but he claimed it was delicious—we settled at an empty table in the corner, away from the noise and constant conversations of the cafeteria. I watched as he picked at his meal, pushing the food around on his plate without really eating. "Ani, please just eat it."

His eyes flickered to mine, "I will," he promised, though his fork remained in the air, hovering over the food, "And just because I said I like when you call me that, doesn't mean you have the ability to use it against me to get what you want."
