Aspiration
Chapter 78

The helicopter plane swirled around a building on the outskirts of New York City. It was a fine building too - very neo-Roman in design. The fact that it was so big and so close to one of the most expensive places in the world made this all feel that much more intimidating. What kind of ties must this organization have had to have places like this all over the world? Just how much power and money was tied into hating those with quirks? How long has this movement really been festering?

You did your best to stow the fear and nerves which had begun to well up in the last few seconds. You looked towards those from class 1A that were on this mission even though they weren't in Hawks' agency. If Sato and Ojiro could do this at fifteen then you should be able to master your own emotions long enough to be of some help too. After all, unlike everyone on board (as far as you knew), you wouldn't have to worry about lasting physical wounds if you got hurt in this skirmish. At least you didn't think so.

Though how your body and quirk would react to trigger, much less ideotrigger, was a mystery. One that was best not tested or considered too much right now.

The back of the aircraft opened once more as it got low enough to safely let out those who couldn't fly without actually touching down. Wind rushed in, bringing with it the sickly smell of the city and the befouled waters running nearby. After being in a more environmentally conscious culture for so long, the vile scent of such pollution nearly made you retch. You gripped onto one of the handles as the belly of the craft emptied out, trying to hold yourself together. Very quickly you realized that you were the last person there.

You let go of the handhold and moved towards the opening. Not that you had far to go. Behind the visor that you designed, no one could see you squeeze your eyes closed once more. Though the shakey breath you took might have been visible. If it wasn't night time that was. As you let out that breath you backed up a bit and took the ramp at a bit of a run; somehow that felt like it made getting off the aircraft easier than walking down the ramp and jumping.

The momentum definitely helped you with the jump you needed to do at the end. Lucky for you, as you hadn't quite thought it through, Sugarman caught you like a mitt. You smiled up at the tall fifteen year old as he sat you down on the ground, thanking him. He grinned and rubbed the back of his head modestly. Which was why you didn't push the gratitude; there was work to be done.

You watched as the others all scattered around the top of the building, heading off the sides with ease. Or at least they made it look easy. Each of them moved in such a way that it felt like there had been some big discussion on formations that you'd just missed. Perhaps you had. While there hadn't been any such conversing on that pot bellied helicopter plane, there would have been plenty of time to talk about what to do while on the first plane. Not that you would have gotten to participate in any of that as Hawks had preoccupied you.

And so you weren't part of the oddly graceful scattering of heroes. You made your way over to the edge of the building, ducking down until you were finally at a squat near the edge so that you didn't draw much attention. You looked over the edge and, for the first time in the last two days, doubt passed through your heart. It mingled with the fear in a nauseating blend. The idea of willingly trying to shimmy down a multiple story building was somehow scarier than contemplating if you'd survive a fall.

You leaned back away from the edge and clutched your arms and legs close together while you tried to push through it. As you squeezed your eyes closed, you tried to imagine how you could do what needed to be done, things you'd been shown as a kid. Images of your mom swinging from buildings, launching herself brazenly in the air, and doing all sorts of risky maneuvers that she'd tried to teach you to do when you were young went through your mind's eye with such high velocity that it was dizzying at first.
