Aspirations
Chapter 80

Consciousness was an interesting thing. Sometimes one minute it didn't exist, then another it did. Other times consciousness was something that was built over a few minutes. Today it was the former rather than the later and you were not happy about it.

Why?

Because that god damned morning sun was miserably bright as it shined into your eyes.

You groaned and pulled a pillow over your head. The cool fabric helped to take the initial sting from being blinded awake. The snigger that followed your attempt to ignore the world was as welcomed in the moment as the sunlight was.

"Rise and shine," Hawks called out in a much too chipper of a voice. "You're going to be late for work."

Your heart picked up at his words once they seeped in. Monoma would never let you live it down if you kept showing up late! Much less the frowny face you'd get from Vlad. Then the reality of your situation reminded you that you weren't in U.A right now; that you didn't need to be ready at the same time high school classes started. In fact, you weren't even in Japan. You were working for the number two hero Hawks. The same Hawks that had brought you on an international mission for your first day; the same Hawks that had kept you up past two am with needs of the flesh.

"Time?" You managed to get out in slurred Japanese.

"7:00 am."

You groaned again. Your arms folded themselves atop the pillow. Even if you hadn't showered after Hawks' desire had been satisfied last night, at best that meant you'd gotten 5 hours of sleep. You were pretty sure it was more like 4 hours.

The popular hero tsk'd you. He plopped down at the end of the bed and started pulling the covers off of you.

"Hawks—-" your single worded responses probably would have sounded more threatening if it wasn't for the fact that you'd just woken up.

"Yeah?"

"Stop."

"Sorry, no can do."

"Tired."

Hawks grinned in satisfaction. Though it should have been obvious that you were tired after everything that had happened yesterday, hearing it still felt good. It was definitely an ego booster. And watching your body stretch out only partially covered up was a small joy too.

"Work starts in 30 minutes. You don't want to be late on your second day do you? What would the boss say?"

"You're the boss," you grumbled tiredly as you turned over onto your side.

His smile spread. He lowered his gaze in a meaningful way. Not that you could see it. Your head was still buried under the pillow.

"You're right. And for admitting that, I'll let you be a couple minutes late so you can actually sit down to eat breakfast. But it's still time to get up."

You pulled the pillow off of your head so that you could stare at him. It was meant to have been a glare but you just didn't have the energy. You were lucky your eyes could focus on him at all with how bright the small room was.

"You kept me up all night."

That self-satisfied grin of his was dangerous. Normally it might have come off a little more seductive. But right now you just wanted to hit him with a pillow. Hawks leaned over towards you as he inched the cover off of you even more, trailing fingers over your exposed midriff as he did so.

"Damn right," he said happily. "But you made it clear yesterday that you wanted me to keep it professional while we're on the clock. Giving you about 15 extra minutes to be late is already pushing it don't you think?"
