Cat's Out Of The Bag

Once you woke up Anri patted your head " How are you feeling? It wasn't anything serious but you fainted possibly from the stress." she said looking down at you sadly, you knew the cat was out of the bag. Your binder and a case for contacts " Your mother and your brother are waiting for you in the viewing room. When you're ready we can go together." she said and you let out a shaky breath " D-did you call her?" you asked her and she shook her head " No, we didn't." she said and gave your hand a reassuring squeeze.

Calming yourself down you followed Anri out and threw the hallways " What about the match?" you asked her " Your team won, with the shot you got from the foul, Itoshi Rin scored the last point. They picked Isagi Yoichi." she said and stopped in front of a door. You could feel your body trembling " Hey it's ok, don't worry." tried to reassure you the older woman rubbing your back, the door opened, Ego sitting down in front of a bunch of monitors while Shin stood at the corner holding on his jacket for dear life, knuckles turning white from his grip  while your mother was pacing back and forth.

With the door shutting behind you, you felt trapped, your mother's head snapped to your direction while Shin rose his head " ( Y-" " YOU SCHEMING BRAT!" yelled your mother and you found yourself lowering your head " YOU'RE UNBELIVABLE! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO YOUR HAIR? HOW FAR ARE YOU WILLING TO GO TO DESTROY YOUR BROTHER'S FUTURE! I CAME HOME THIS MORNING AND IM FINDING YOUR BROTHER HOME! ALL ALONE? AND THEN HE TELLS ME YOU RUN OFF AND TOOK HIS PLACE!" she screamed grabbing you by your shirt and pulling you towards her " Mom stop! I told you already it was my idea!" yelled Shin going to pull her back as she shook you back and forth " YOU KEEP QUIET!" she barked and turned back to you " Are you happy now? Making a fool out of yourself? Out of ME! Did getting hit by a car mess you up even more in the head?" she spat throwing you back, you took a step back, not because you lost your footing or anything but just because you wanted to stay away from her.

She sighed deeply " Please control yourself! This is no way to treat your daughter!" protested Anri and your mother scoffed at her " What do you even know about raising a child?" she mocked and sighed again " Now that you put up your little show it's time for everything to go in it's place. Shin is staying and you're returning home." she said and you gritted your teeth glaring at her " Do not look at me like that!" she yelled " And you do not take decisions about my program." said Ego making all of you look at him.

The man had turned his attention from the monitors to you " What do you mean? This is obviously what must happen. She took you for fools and stole her brother's place here and she is a girl. Do you-" " Firstly she didn't fool anyone, we monitor everyone's condition and have their stats down to the last gram and centimeter and what if she's a woman. I don't care about that, the only thing I care about is creating the words top egoist. And your daughter has proven herself the right material to use." said the man getting up.

" So I'm more interested in keeping our little impostor here than switching it up for your mediocre of a player son." he said resting his arm on your shoulder " B-but you sent him that letter! You picked him from the start!" argued your mother " Indeed but she has proven herself better. Currently she's one of our top players." he said tagging the number on your sleeve " Huh? Hahaha, Shin say something! Aren't you going to defend your position?" asked your mother but was met with silence as the boy tried to find the words to speak " You! You're coming home, either Shin get's in or not you're not permitted to stay." she said.

You looked at her and then at your feet " Who doesn't permit it?" you asked the frustration of everything you have been threw finally sipping threw the cracks " What?" she asked like she didn't quiet hear you " I can continue as is right?" you asked Ego who nodded smile stretching from ear to ear " You're coming back home." she spat and you shook your head " Hahaha. Are you serious? This is your last chance. You're either coming home or I will no longer have a daughter. Think about it, you being here or not doesn't make that great of a difference." she said making Anri and Shin gasp " Mom! What are you saying you're taking this too far!" yelled Shin and you mother straight up ignored him waiting for your answer.

Ego squeezed your shoulder urging you to answer " It won't make much of a difference right?" you asked as the man's smile dropped and your mother's lips stretched " Me coming home or not. Since you have always acted like you never had a daughter." you said, the slap was harsh but it didn't affect you that much, getting your neck sliced had hurt more, waisting yourself away to satisfy your mother's selfishness had hurt more " You ungrateful brat. I have done everything for you." she said gritting her teeth, Shin having pulled her back the moment she slapped you " Everything?" you asked her " When was the last time you did anything for me. In contrast I have been doing everything for you. Ditching my club, my friends. You view me more as an assistant than your actual child. Tell me exactly when was the last time you attended one of my games? Or we celebrated for me as well with Shin at our birthday? You haven't even wished to me. When did you care to ask about my day, my interests if or I have eaten?" you asked her ' Yea, be it my previous life or this one, you never saw me as family to begin with.' you thought.

Another harsh slap landed on your cheek but before she could raise her hand a third time Ego lightly pushed her back " That's it! I had enough of you! You are no longer welcomed into this family! I don't want to see you ever again!" she yelled but all in all seemed rather calm. Ego snapped his fingers " Then you wouldn't mind signing this right?" he asked as Anri with shaky hands presented a few papers to your mother " What are those?" she asked looking at the man puzzled " Papers that you're giving full custody of your daughter to me, once you signed these you will have no right to make any decisions regarding her or come in contact with her unless I allow her to. Basically I will become her guardian, a role you have miserably failed to fill." he said grin always present.

" If you're so eager to burden yourself it's fine by me!" she said, you watched as she signed the papers and threw the pen to the side " Soon they'll realize how much of a nuisance and waste you are, don't come crying back to me when that happens." she spat walking out. Shin followed after her, as he passed you he gave your hand a light squeeze " I'm gonna fix this." he said and you scoffed " There is nothing to fix." you said and he looked at you bitterly before following your mother out.

Giving you anxious looks Anri gathered the papers and handed them to Ego, you watched him singe them " Now what? Am I keeping the crossdressing bit on?" you asked him " There is no need, even though our sponsors weren't really happy we managed to convince them. You can tell your teammates but I would do it after tomorrow. Go rest, you've got a big match coming in the next 24 hours." he said and you nodded, with a kind smile Anri patted your back and guided you out.

You followed her threw the halls " Am I not going back to the dorm?" you asked her when you passed your team's room and she shook her head " Since you don't have to hide yourself anymore we have prepared a sole room for you, it has a bathroom as well so now you won't have to sneak around to take a bath. It's close to the other rooms but far enough to give you some privacy." she said and a door popped open.

The room was spacious, with a closet and a bed bigger than the ones in the previous rooms, from another door you could spot the bathroom, sink and bathtub hidden by a curtain " There are changes of clothes best fitted for your size in the closet.  Also we have some athletic vests so you don't have to use that binder and some eye drops for your eyes, for overusing those contacts. Your stitches are also fine now but you can't cover the bandages so if you still feel embarrassed we can get you a neck scarf-" " No thank you. I wasn't hiding it because I was embarrassed." you said and she nodded.

She turned to leave but stopped just as she stepped out of the door " ( Y/n)-chan, parents can say a lot of mean things when they get angry, but you shouldn't take it to heart, me and Ego we're going to make sure you aren't left uncared for." she said " Thank you, but I stopped caring about what that woman thinks of me a life time ago." you said trying to give her a smile " I would like to take a rest now. Thank you again for everything." you said " Don't forget-" the door closed " To eat." you heard her mumbled.

All the strength you had disappeared and with your legs feeling heavy you collapsed on your knees " She just gave me up." you sobbed hugging yourself head resting on the floor " Not even a second thought to it." you cried tears blurring your vision. You sniffled holding yourself tighter, your nails almost digging to your sides " Damnit, it hurts." you cried.
