Panic clawed at her mind, her heart a frantic drum against her ribs as the pixie's frantic cries echoed through the office. "What are we going to do?!" Paimon's voice pierced through their ears. Her hands, clammy with dread, fumbled through the drawers of her desk.
A soft thudding of objects contrasted sharply with the chaotic voices raging in her mind. A glint of crimson caught her eye. There, nestled in a clear box, lined with soft velvet, lay a delicate silver watch. Ruby details adorned its intricate casing, and the watch face pulsed with an eerie, lifelike glow. "Genevieve, you are dismissed until needed," your voice boomed, a sudden authority cutting through the tension, as you reached for your cloak. You carefully lifted the watch and fastened it around your neck. A soft light emanated from behind you as a blackbird landed silently on your shoulder.
The weight of the cloak settled on her shoulders, a familiar scent filling her senses. Her gaze fell upon a beautifully decorated watch box. Inside, a silver pocket watch, its cover inlaid with delicate ruby details, lay waiting. "I'll be going to him," you stated sternly, turning to the traveler and Paimon. "We want to come with you!" the traveler exclaimed, moving to follow. You stopped him with a look. "Traveller, I believe it is best I handle this alone."
"No! Lyney and Lynette are our friends!" the pixie protested. "No," you repeated, turning away. "Whatever you say, we're still coming," they insisted, running after you once more. You raced towards the edge of Fontaine, the city of Justice. Each cobblestone beneath her feet, each face blurring past, her mind raced against the relentless tick of time. You clutched the silver watch around your neck, its ruby details glowing softly in your trembling hand as you reached the city's edge. The bustling streets gave way to the quiet solitude of trees surrounding a burnt-down estate.
Aether and the pixie finally caught up as you turned to face them. "You want to save them? Then we must hurry," you urged, tears streaming down your cheeks. The watch on your neck pulsed brighter. "Through the shining veils of time, a path unfolds." As you approached the manor, the charred ruins dissolved, replaced by a vibrant, flourishing estate, surrounded by a riot of rainbow roses. Cracks, however, spiderwebbed across the estate's once-grand walls.
"Seek the heart where truth resides," you continued, your voice hardening with determination. The ground began to rumble beneath your feet. Dark clouds swirled overhead, thunder echoing ominously as you finished your incantation. "Break free the chains, where the darkness hides." The world seemed to buckle and twist, the ground giving way beneath you. You grabbed Aether, pulling him with you as both of you plummeted into the abyss. Darkness swallowed you whole.
A jolt of pain shot through your side as your body slammed against the unforgivingly cold stone floor. A strangled groan escaped your lips as you instinctively curled into yourself, clutching at the throbbing ache. "Lady (Y/n)!" a tiny voice cried out, glittering stars fluttering around the pixie. Your vision, momentarily blurred by the impact, slowly sharpened. You blinked, trying to pierce the oppressive darkness that enveloped you. As your eyes adjusted, a wave of icy dread washed over you. A high-pitched screech, chillingly familiar, echoed through the cavernous space, making the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. You whipped your head around, your gaze locking onto Aether, whose face mirrored your own dawning horror. His breath hitched, his eyes wide with a mixture of fear and recognition.
Ignoring the throbbing pain in your side, you scrambled to your feet, snatching your fallen watch from the cold stone. The blood pounded in your ears, drowning out everything but the frantic screams echoing through the darkness. Driven by a surge of adrenaline and a desperate need to help, you broke into a run, heading towards the source of the terrified cries. "Lady (Y/n)! Please wait!" Aether's voice pierced through the din, his panicked shout trailing behind you as he scrambled to catch up.
