hiraeth - part ninety-seven
NO LONGER MYSELF»»——⍟——««
Voices echoed in and out of Y/n's ears, different conversations of varying topics filling her senses. Goku must've known Y/n better than she realized, because as soon as the food hit her mouth and she was surrounded by noise, her anxieties had been drowned out. It was hard to focus on her paranoia anyway when there was a Saiyan eating right next to her.
But there was only so much of the noise Y/n could take. And when she had finished her food, she quickly dismissed herself, telling Goku that she was going to clean up and dress herself in a more suitable outfit instead of her pajamas. That had been her plan, wandering down the long, stretching halls, until she came across a large window, sunlight streaming into the hall.
Y/n had forgotten just how beautiful Earth could be around spring time. The cherry blossom trees were in full bloom, fresh new growth sprouting all over the city. The grass was heavy with dew, thick white clouds dotting the bright blue sky. Spring was in full roll now. It had been a long time since she had even seen such weather, her last sight of Earth being the bleak, cold winter.
Pulling her gaze away from the window, Y/n realized she hadn't even walked in the direction of her bedroom, her surroundings unfamiliar. All except for one small detail, a door that didn't stand out from the others in any way. Nothing about it screamed out to Y/n that it held any significance, and nothing about it was familiar to her. But something about it pulled her in, like she could find all the answers to her problems on the other side of this door. As if stepping through might just save her life.
The automated door slid open, revealing a gloomy and dark room. Curtains hung over the window, allowing only minimal sunlight in, but what got through revealed the thick dust heavy in the air. The bed was made perfect, leaving not a single crease in the dusty blanket, a contradiction to the rest of the room. The floor was littered with withered petals, books scattered across the desk, some even pulled out of the bookshelf onto the floor. This was a familiar sight to Y/n, but only because this had been where she found Gohan before the tournament. This was her old bedroom.
Y/n had to assume she never spent much time in her bedroom if she lacked all memory of it. And from the lack of personalization in the room, Y/n had to hope that was the case, and she wasn't just a bland person.
The petals on the floor brought a smile to Y/n's face. It had been a kind gesture on Goku's part to leave her gifts, and judging by the type of flower it was, part of it had to have been some kind of tribute to Goku Black as well. Or at the very least, it was Goku's way of acknowledging the bond Y/n shared with Black, giving her something to remember him by.
As the tips of her fingers grazed over the shelves filled with books, a thought crossed Y/n's mind, wondering if she was as interesting or useful as she once was. The thought only pushed the idea that she was nothing but an empty shell now, a frown etching into her lips. Pulling out one of the books, Y/n flipped through the contents, skimming through. And it only left her wondering how she had managed to read such books before.
Her gaze drifted from the book, boredom beginning to make her think it was time to leave, before spotting something on the table. A binder with no identifying cover, and a dust covered camera sat side by side. Intrigued, Y/n set down the book she had been looking through, moving to sit in the desk chair. Fingers gliding over the cover of the binder, the feeling that she was invading someone's privacy twisted in her stomach, a bitter chuckle escaping her lips. She was so far gone that she saw her past self as an entirely separate living being.
