“No one is taking your sister or you away from us I promise” I say to Asiah's stomach
“That's right” Asiah says stroking her bump
Cassidy, her fiancee, Tyre sit across from us at the long dark brown table instead of going to court like last time we're at a meditation.
A women in a gray business come inside the room “Hello, I'm Myra Rodriguez and I'll be over seeing your case today”
We're all quiet
“So I've review the file and it says that Elijah and Asiah Jackson have full custody of the child so why are we here?” she asks
Cassidy clears her throat “Their unfit to be parents to my daughter or their unborn child”
“Do you have any evidence of this?”
“No”
Myra sighs “Then there isn't anything here”
“What about my motion to have custody of Alexis Jackson?”
“That has been denied”
“What? Why?”
“You gave full custody to the Jacksons, you no longer have paternal rights to Alexis Jackson”
“Excuse me, yes, I do I'm her mother”
“You gave up you parental rights _ she looks down at the papers_ five years ago once you have her up to be raised by her father you lost your rights and since Mrs. Jackson has adopted her the child she is now her mother”
“How is that possible?”
“Did you or didn't you not sign these papers on the day of May 9, 2008?”
Myra pass the papers to Cassidy
“Excuse me” Asiah pipes up
“Yes”
“If he's had custody of Alexis then why did we have to go to court last year to fight for custody?”
“Well Mrs. Jackson, your judge probably did something wrong because your husband has had custody for the child since her birth”
“Since there is no proof of the Jacksons being unfit parents their keeping Alexis Jackson and for the unborn child it's not any of your concern but if abuse makes itself presented then the state will take over...this case is officially closed have a nice day folks”
“I can't believe this” Cassidy says
“Let's go” I
Right before we leave Asiah turns around “Don't worry I promise you'll be raised right...have a nice life, Cassidy”.

“My girlfriend is four months pregnant with my child and I'm stepping up to be a father to my daughter--”
“That's good for you congratulations on the baby girl” Vanessa says
I lick my lips “Vanessa, if you let me be there for him--”
“I obviously don't want you in our lives for a reason”
“Vanessa, I don't understand”
“Your just going to end up hurting me like you did all those other women and I don't know if I can come back from that kinda of hurt...again”
