Part V. I hate you Maven Calore.

Aurora's POV

I was frozen. I couldn't move or say anything. Like he had me in some sort of trance.

There he was, standing in his doorway, staring down at me, waiting for me to explain myself. But what could I possibly say that wouldn't make me look like an obsessed stalker? I suppose I could lie and say I was lost or my shoe got caught onto something as I was walking back to my chambers. But I'm a terrible liar and he'd catch on right away. I shouldn't have been eavesdropping...

What am I gonna do now?

"What? You don't have anything to say for yourself? Now that I've caught you spying on me?"

"I wasn't spying!" I defend myself.

"Really? Because most people would assume that of someone who creeps in the shadows, lurks behind bedroom doors and listens to other people's private conversations... no?"

"Well I wasn't creeping in the shadows." I mentally roll my eyes and scoff at him.

I sense him holding back a chuckle.

"So you admit to all the other things then?" He gazes into my eyes, as if he's trying to read me.

I stay silent. Unsure of what to say next.

"Silence is still answer... just so you know." He ridicules me.

I move my mouth to speak, but nothing comes out.

How am I going to get myself out of this mess? He's obviously upset because of his argument with Iris, anything I say now will just add fuel to that fire and that is something no one should ever dare to do. Fire is Maven's playground after all, he'll always win.

However, I do have some tricks up my own sleeve. Tricks that Maven hasn't seen before, because I keep them hidden. When you're a new blood you have to hide your powers, once they find out, they'll use the silent stone on you. I'm surprised Maven hasn't done so to me yet. I suppose he thinks my powers will help me get in with the Scarlett Guard. But today, I have other plans.

Before he can utter another sentence, I begin walking away, confident that he won't chase me. I hear him begin to and then all of a sudden...

"What the- what's going on.... What did you do?! Where's that water coming from? Where did you go? Whatever you're doing, stop it right now..." he trails off and I have to fight my laughter so he doesn't hear where I am.

It's so good to be a new blood. And as cute as Maven is, it felt really awesome to get back at him for how he's been treating me.

See, I'm an illusionist, so I can make him see whatever I want him to see, and whatever I don't want him to see, he won't. I've gotta admit, it's pretty fucking awesome. All I had to do was make myself appear invisible and in my place show him a stream of water flooding the castle. Hell, he might even think Iris did it.

I smile as I make my way back to my chambers and plop myself onto my bed. The illusion has probably worn off by now, which means Maven has probably figured out what I did, but I don't really care. It's not like he knows where my chambers are so he can't confront me about it tonight. That'll be tomorrow's problem.

Besides, I feel pretty confident that he won't use the silent stone on me considering he kind of needs me right now, and my powers. I've had a lot of time to think about my situation today, and I'm so tired of being so scared all the time. That's who I used to be, but I'm not that girl anymore, I won't be. Not when the worst possible thing has already happened. I refuse to live in fear any longer.
