When the universe was created, all life coexisted peacefully. Both the Heavens and the Earth served in harmony.

Higher powers in the Heavens were more than happy to help life flourish on Earth; offering miracles and aid to earthlings whenever they deemed necessary. In return, life on Earth provided the Heavens with nothing but gratitude and worship.

Both parties were content in the trade for centuries upon centuries; and all was well.

However, despite all of the wondrous marvels the Heavens provided earthlings with, a sense of entitlement developed within the hearts of beings called 'humans'. They grew less and less grateful for the sunsets, the stars, the auroras, and other 'everyday' phenomenons the Heavens so graciously blessed them with.

Instead of watching the crashing waves with awe, they focused on the occasional tsunamis that were out of the Heavens' control. Instead of admiring the gentle winds that swept over the rolling plains, they muttered about the tornadoes that were a result of the Heavens wanting to bless them with both warm days, and cool evenings. Rather than appreciating the wonder that was life, they'd damn the Heavens for the occupational hazard of being an earthling; mortality.

As years progressed, humanity began to dismiss the wonders the Heavens would endow upon them, slowly forgetting about the rapport the two parties shared eons prior.

The Heavens by nature were selfless, and the earthlings by evolution were selfish. The Almighty One -- Or Many; it would depend on which religion practicer you would ask. -- continued to bestow exceptional gifts to the Earthlings, despite receiving little to nothing in return.

Eventually, the Almighty appointed 'guardian angels' to humans, to defer the consequences of often naive choices made by the beings. The angels and their efforts weren't flawless by any means; but the Almighty knew that humanity could not live out life in solitude.

Luke Robert Hemmings was just one of the billions of angels created by the Almighty for the sole purpose of preserving humanity on earth; one individual being at a time.

It's a rarity for angels to be placed on earth amongst the mortals; but in Luke's case, it was necessary.

She needed him. Even if she didn't know it.
