That's always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people would want to be around someone because they're pretty. It's like picking your breakfast cereals based on the color instead of taste.

→ This is a conversation between Margo and Q in the car on their trip around town. They're catching up on their former romantic partners and Quentin tells her that he thinks she is hotter than her ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend to which Margot responds with the quote from above.

→ This metaphor that Quentin is using shows us how stupid the role of attractiveness really is. The comparison to choosing your food based on optics is highly intelligent as it shows how ridiculous it is to choose the people you want to surround yourself with based on these superficial factors.

Something to take away from this quote: it really doesn't matter what the people around you look like, choose them because they choose you. Choose them because they make you happy. Choose them because you want them around you.
