Finally summer was over and the long dreary hot months have come to an end. I stood on the platform of 9 3/4, surrounded by families crying and wishing their children good luck for the new year. Mothers cried, fathers stood proudly and the students smiled with excitement, you could practically feel the warmth of love in the air. I couldn't help but roll my eyes as these are all things I could never understand, but deep down I know I long for it most. I was conflicted whether if I should go find a compartment on the scarlet train or wait for my parents to say their fair well to me, even though I already knew their words would be limited and scornful. My Mum and Dad were saying goodby to their most beloved and adored child, my brother, James, while might I add practically ignoring me. There were tears rolling down my Mum's face as she whined about him already being a fourth year, saying that he was growing up to fast. You see my family and I never got along. I was always the odd one out, the black sheep of the family, the weirdo. And it only got worse when I was sorted into my house at Hogwarts, Slytherin. Yup that's right, I Aurora Evangeline Potter have broken the family tradition of being a Gryffindor and was sorted in the so called "evil" house of snakes. I never knew why I was treated so terribly by my family, even my brother James who once adored me, now picked on me at school with his god awful friends. I was a bit sad that they never loved me I mean who wouldn't be sad over not being loved by their family. But over the 14 years I've been alive a part of me has just gotten used to the neglect. Finally after what seemed like ages my mother finally turned to me and away from James who was now boarding the train. "Aurora, do try to not embarrass the family this year", she said with a forced smile on her face. My father only nodded at me as if he was agreeing with my mother. I can't believe I stayed with them just to hear that. While my mother was the one I argued with 24/7 my father completely ignored me. I turned around, grabbed my trunk, and stormed over to the train that was giving its last whistle, before it was about to depart from the station. I walked around the train trying to find an empty compartment in the Slytherin area. I didn't have any friends either because no one wanted to be bullied by the marauders, and they knew if they were friends with me that would happen. But I guess that's for the best anyway, I wouldn't want people to be bullied because of me. After what seemed like ages I found an empty compartment and put my bags of the high shelf thing and pulled out a book. I sat down getting comfortable and started reading. Slowly the train started moving and we were on our way to Hogwarts. I leaned back and enjoyed the comfort of my book and sometimes looked out the window at the passing scenery, to see if we were getting close to the school. It's been awhile and
I haven't seen my brother and his friends yet so that's pretty good.
But me being my stupid self spoke to soon.
"Would you look at that Padfoot my disgrace of a sister is siting all alone", James said throwing the compartment door open and laughed his head off with the other three boys.
"Of course she is who would want to be anywhere near that thing"black yelled through his laughter. It's nice to know I'm a "thing" now and not a person. I just looked up from my book and smiled at them even though their comments hurt. I knew better than to show them the pain they caused me, because it would only make everything worse. I swear that I saw James frown for a couple of seconds but quickly masking it with a smirk. Over the years of being by myself I have become very good at reading people, and observing them because I have nothing better to do on my spare time. But then again I could be imagining things. "Hey bookworm what are you reading? The Book Thief", James said while grabbing my book and taking it from me. I stood up from my seat and tried to take the book from him but he hung it over his head so I couldn't reach it. "I didn't know someone as dumb as you could read" Sirius said causing Peter to laugh behind him like a little sidekick.
"Is it a good book",Remus question. "Yes, yes it is, now could you please give it back James", I asked politely. "Hmmmmmm let me think about it" he said and tapped his chin. But as soon as I went to grab it he through it out the window. I just stared at the window in shock while he and his friends left laughing. I would honestly rather have them hit me like they do sometimes than throw a good book out the window. When I was sure they left I quickly went to the window and accoioed my book back. I whipped all the dirt off my book with my hand and went back to reading. The marauders didn't bother me again after that but I still kept my guard up through the whole train ride Incase they did. I got up from my seat, locked the door and then put all the blinds down. I quickly changed into my Slytherin uniform. When I finished I unlocked the door and put the blinds up. I sat down and looked out the window. There was Hogwarts, still looking the same as last year. Yet it always amazes me every time I look at it. I quickly got off the train and headed for the carriages I got in the first carriage I saw and it started moving since no one else was there yet.
