Sacrifices must be made

|Flashback|

It's so vast, so green... so peaceful.

The young girl's heart melted the moment her eyes laid upon a perfect landscape that she could only imagine seeing painted in canvases and hanging in a wall. She instinctively placed a hand just above her forehead as a ray of sun settling down the mountain range gently touched her face. It was like a heart-warming touch of a caring hand. While a cool breeze caressed her hair away from her face and it left a trail of scent of a specific flower that only bloom during April -cherry blossoms. A sweet giggle escaped on the girl's lips as she felt the wind teasing her with gentle tickles.

It was the best feeling ever.

"Do you like it?" a deep voice was heard behind her. She spun her heels to greet a man with the brightest smile putting shame to the warmth of the sun has to offer in this morning. He has a good stature and a fresh ambience around him despite the creases on his face that were deepened over time. His receding hairline along with the few strands of grey hair was neatly kept in his hat that matched his suite perfectly well. She believed that he was in his mid-60s yet he stood tall and strong as if he had cheated time.

"I don't just like it... I love it here!" She beamed in enthusiasm. "Thank you grandpa" she jumped towards him and wrapped her arms around his shoulder.

The man was taken aback briefly but caught her otherwise "Anything for your birthday my princess..." then patted the top of her head and returned the hug.

It was Luna's birthday and she's celebrating it with her grandpa in a hilltop away from the mansion where you could perfectly see an entire town and its busy people below. They sneaked out from her mother and set up a little picnic on a clearing. It was simply put up given that they only have limited time yet for her it was more than enough.

"How did you find this place, grandpa?" She asked as they both enjoyed the relaxing view.

"Have you forgotten that I'm also a traveller? Navigating and discovering beautiful places like this is what I'm best at." He said with a proud smile.

Luna deadpanned, "You always get lost during your business travels grandpa that's why we hired a driver."

Felix travels to different marketplaces to trade his inventions. Since the witching business had plummeted, the Agnesi had to find a way to earn a living. His family was now solely dependent on his travels, delivering downtown not only his creations but also herbal medicines that his wife prepared. Before Felix fell in love with a witch, he was just a humble thinker in a small town. Over the years he has mastered the art of metalworks and gained considerable amount of money over it.

He only laughed sheepishly scratching the back of his head. "Never mind that... just keep this place as our little secret paradise okay?"

"Then it's a secret." Luna smiled knowingly. Her grandpa was like a special light in that dark house. Everything is brighter when he's around not only because he loves to spoil her with everything she asked but mostly he always brings out the child within her. From all the responsibilities and expectations she carries on her shoulder, sometimes she needed someone to remind her that she's still a girl -frail and sometimes scared. Someone to tell her that it's okay to show weaknesses; to be human. And her grandpa never failed to give her that comfort.

Luna knew the man she idolized was just an average mortal, not a witch nor of any kind. Though in her eyes, Felix was beyond the man he was because of his kind heart that is willing to accept and fight for his family no matter how strange it is.
