A witches’ mark triggers the witches’ gift.

Back in the old days, there was this symbol that struck fear on the heart of the land. Even a fool knew that it was smart enough to stay clear from it for it is known that death follows once a triquetra appears.

This could only mean one thing -a witch is nearby.

During those glorious days, witches wore their brand like an expensive diamond on a lady’s neck -ever proud and bold. Embracing the divine feminine; the triquetra is a pure sign of female empowerment. A reminder that nothing could stop them that could easily be translated to -everyone should be afraid of them.

Those were the great times… back when they had no reason to fear for simply existing.

Nowadays little is known what the symbol truly meant and fewer regards its importance. For only the bearer of the mark knew it’s significance -nothing but a mere reminder of the miserable life and misfortunes she had to endure in the future.

Luna winced in pain as the sting radiating from her left hand seared across her body. Instinctively, her other hand reached for the source of the pain trying but failing to numb the sensation down. Her mark was raging uncontrollably and left a pain that felt like a hot iron sticking on her bare flesh. Curses in different dialects escaped her mouth as another wave of torture more painful than the last was felt.

It’s been triggered. She hissed in annoyance, internally scolding herself for her stupidity.

During her match with the chairman, when she almost tapped into her powers, she activated her triquetra which was the first step of her casting. She could almost hear her mother’s lectures in the back of her head.

“A witches’ mark triggers the witches’ gift like a sacred key unlocking our connection to the Goddess's eyes. This can be tapped through witches’ emotion… the witches’ will to punish. If one manages to channel that emotion, she can activate her triquetra. And once it’s triggered it will demand for a soul to devour.”

Luna gnawed her lower lip, worrying the worst that could happen. She knew that in order to tame it down she must get a hold of her emotions. But then again, one thing her mother failed as teacher was to help her manage her emotions. In all her life she did nothing but suppress her feelings and it always worked inside the mansion. Up until she had to deal with the reality of the world.

In the midst of the excruciating pain, she heard Gon’s worried voice by her side that momentarily distracted her.

“Lux, are you okay?”

She looked and met wide innocent captivating eyes looking back at her and made her somewhat forget what she’s been battling just now. Gon held her quivering hand as if understanding that it had been the cause of her suffering. She almost jolted her hand away, afraid that the mark might burn him but to her surprise Gon didn’t mind.

“Does it hurt?” He asked, squeezing her hand in his most delicate way.

His voice was comforting enough to have diverted her from the reality before realizing she might be gawking up until now. Correcting herself, she cleared a lump on her throat before slightly shaking her head. “I-It’s nothing Gon” she managed to utter some words.

“Just now, you’re trembling so bad.” Gon stated. She didn’t even notice Gon was observing her. “I thought maybe something bad is happening to you since you seemed different after your match with Netero-san.” Gon tilted his head, leaning closer to her to inspect.

Luna felt a tug on her chest. He was worried about me.

The strange feeling from her chest was strong enough to overpower the searing heat coming from her left hand. She now wondered if Gon had some sort of a magical healing touch. This now posed a great concern to her realizing that Gon has this kind of effect on her being. It was powerful enough to tame an enraging devil mark.
