When we arrived at the training grounds, it was obvious that the young guards were unsettled.

Their expressions were tired, bedraggled, nervous, or just down right disturbed.

I could tell that Cinnadale had been overworking the poor souls as if the apocalypse would be knocking on our front door tomorrow, and in his mind, it probably would.

The buff man himself was stationed near a tent, swinging a battle axe with a certain expression of pride plastered across his face- as always

His scruffy blonde hair hung in his eyes, the same ominous white color as his century old ancestors
(One of whom was Antridelle ominous)

Hints the peculiar hair.

He smiled when he saw me, his blue eyes flashed with excitment and his sleek white ears perked up.
He shared the exact fondness of a joyful puppy.

The boy swung his axe over his shoulder, and dove for me all together.
I squealed and hid behind Jacob who just moved out of the way, leaving me as an open target.

Cinnadale closed the space between us with amazing speed, he gripped me tightly, wrapping his arms around my torso and closing us in a deep hug.

Jacob laughed

I pushed his face away, "Please, Cinnadale I just saw you yesterday"

"You almost died yesterday."

His voice rang in my ears, muffled from my dress.

"I'm fine, I assure you. Cinnadale...it was only a brief scuffle...dear Hecate, he smelled horrible."

Cin laughed pulling away

"That he did ! The guards that stopped the madness told a petrifying story filled with the smell of death, and a pale figure silhouetted in darkness to the boys over the fire. They said he savagely attacked you."

I laughed, " I think it's the other way around Cinna."

Cinnadale perked up, his icey blue eyes glistened, they filled with something like...pride?

Cinnadale was proud of me!
He hugged me once more.

"You..attacked him?"

I nodded slowly

"viciously? Was there growling and scratching and claws...and teeth!
Did you show him your teeth?!"

I sighed pushing him playfully away.

"He saw enough to send him running like a buck."

"Excellent!"

Jacob coughed taking his moment to leave, he started to mingle among the small cluster of boys near a weapon filled tent. They seemed to be having a severely animated conversation about the proper way to tackle a buck, or a deer in less complex cases.

Cinnadale smiled, this was obviously the type of topic he thought his trainee guards were supposed to conversate about.
I shook my head.

"Speaking of tackling..what exactly is your said 'new form of training' about?"
After I said this, I immediately regretted it

Cinnadales expression took a serious tone. It was almost like as soon as the words left my lips, something in the air changed and everything was different.
His blue eyes grew stern.

"Yes...the immortal situation, the guards."

"We don't know if they're dead, " I interrupted hastily.

Cinnadale held up one finger,
"Yet we don't know if they're alive either."

I went silent, letting him continue

"See, this immortal could have very well killed both Hunters."

"Y-yes, that's a possibility...but Jacob told me you spoke of the prophecy...nothing was broken...not unless this vampire was an Abader."

"Still we need to take new precautions (Y/N) ! For all we know the foolishness of the younger guards...or worse, the weakness of our weathered defenses could let another immortal within the kingdom of Circe...and a tackle may not help."

"But-"

"Princess, the people of Circe look up to their future ruler...you are like a little oasis of hope that will guide them endlessly through whatever dark age awaits them. If one of those....beast get ahold of you, this lone kingdom will lose hope in all that they have. These people will forget everything that is joy the day you die...and since a thing that could have ended your life made it's way into the castle, I believe you know the only solution is to prepare for war early!"

I went stiff.
Silence.
The whole training ground seemed to be staring at the two of us, all conversations were abandoned, all voices were muted. Everyone looked at the princess and the head guard wrapped in a deep -now silenenced- converse, their eyes boreing into eachothers.
One of them looked hurt.

They watched the princess nod slowly, her (h/c) locks fell in her eyes.

"Okay," she said.

"Okay, fine."
