*FOUR YEARS LATER*

A thirteen year old Luna stood in her backyard, eyes shut and hands placed together as she breathed deeply. She focused on her surroundings, listening to every bird's song, every wind's whistle and every movement of the life around her. She took another deep breath as she reached for her knives on her sides. "I'm ready," she said. She opened her eyes and faced her sensei. He raised his hands, palms facing up, and a few rocks followed his movement. He flung a rock in Luna's direction, which she skillfully dodged by doing a side somersault to the left. After that, two more rocks came flying towards her. She swiftly sliced one so that it went flying into another direction and kicked the other one away from her. She continued to slice and dodge every rock that came her way until it was interrupted by clapping. Luna turned her attention towards the source and saw General Osamu watching them from the patio. Luna smiled at him. She respectfully bowed to her sensei and after he did the same, he turned and walked away. "You're getting better by the day," Osamu commented. "Thanks. I've been working hard...and I've been thinking that...maybe you could teach me earth bending now?" Luna asked and placed a hopeful smile on her lips. Osamu smiled down at the girl. "When the time comes," he said, causing Luna to groan. "Can't the time come already?!" Osamu chuckled at the girl's remark. "Cheer up, all good things come to those who wait. Meanwhile, do you want to come with me to the marketplace? I have to pick up supplies for dinner tonight." The smile returned on Luna's face as she nodded her head eagerly. He motioned for her to follow as he walked out of the house.

The two walked on the streets of the buzzing marketplace. People walked around, examining the different produce and trinkets from the different stalls. The market was always a lively place. Osamu guided Luna trough all the people that walked around them. "Stay close, you don't want to get lost," Osamu instructed. Luna nodded and tried to stay with him but the crowd seemed to grow denser with every step they took. Focusing too hard on trying to stay with Osamu, Luna tripped over an unseen object and fell to the hard ground. She pulled herself up by her pale-skinned arms and placed her feet underneath her to stand up from the ground. She brushed the dust off of her training clothes that she had forgotten to change out of and then looked up, realizing that she had lost Osamu. "Osamu?!" she called out, hoping that he would hear her and come back for her. Her hopes were lost as she only saw a sea of unfamiliar faces surrounding her. Panicking, she decided to walk in the direction that Osamu had been leading her. As she kept walking, the crowd grew thinner until there were only a few people on the streets. This part of the market was completely unknown to Luna and because she was mostly told to stay home, she didn't have much experience with being alone in an unfamiliar place. Her breath quickened as she willed her feet to move faster. She didn't know where she was going or where she would end up but she just wanted to get out of her current location because of a strange feeling that was welling up in her stomach. She rounded a nearby corner and froze. The street was completely empty except for three men that leaned on a wall, only a few feet away from Luna. She was about to back away but one of the men spotted her. "Well, well. Who do we have here?" the man said as the other two looked in her direction with a smirk plastered on their faces. Luna started to back away as the men approached her. "No need to be scared. We won't hurt you...much," another man said, sending a shiver down Luna's spine. She grabbed the handles of her weapons tightly but the men saw this movement and two of them quickly grabbed her. She started to struggle against their grip or slice them with the knives but their hold on her was to strong. "Now why don't you drop your weapons?" the man that stood in front of Luna asked. The two men that held her, twisted her wrists, causing her to drop the knives. "That's a good girl," the man smirked. Something snapped inside Luna when he said those words. Her mind went back to that awful night. The Fire Nation General held her mother in his grip. She saw the little girl that stood across from him lower her guard. "Now that's a good girl," he said. She squeezed her eyes shut as she felt herself shake violently out of anger. The men that surrounded her eyed her suspiciously. Luna felt the plans of her hands starting to heat up. Something hard collided with her cheek as the man punched her. "Stop your pathetic shivering," the man ordered. Luna brought her face up again, eyes still closed, so it was as if she was looking at the man. He looked at her strangely before her eyes snapped open, revealing blazing red orbs. The man stumbled back out of shock. Luna then let the heat escape her palms, creating a flame. She shot the fire out towards the two men who were holding her, causing them to let go of her. She turned to face them and blasted a wave of flames in their direction. They quickly cowered away, leaving Luna alone with the 'leader'. She slowly turned to face the man who was shaking in fear but tried to hide it. Luna started to approach the man, only for him to throw multiple objects that he could find at her. With every object that was thrown at her, Luna would flick her wrist to send a slice of fire at it, burning it so it wouldn't hit her. The man shook more Luna approached him. Once she was close enough, she swung her leg at the man's legs and kicked them out from under him, making him fall to the ground. She quickly grabbed his hair and yanked it, lifting his head up enough for her to put a fire-dagger to his neck. "Don't ever call me a 'good girl' again. Got it?!" she hissed in her ear. When he didn't respond, she placed her knee on his back, and dug it into it. "Let go of me!" he yelled as he struggled against her hold. "Didn't you hear what I said?!" she yelled at him. "Luna?" Luna's gaze shot up at the sound of her name., her red eyes meeting the deep brown ones of Osamu. A low growl seemed to escape Luna's lips as she realized her fun would be over. While Luna's attention was elsewhere, the man found his way out of her grasp. As soon as he was on his feet, he ran as fast as his legs would carry him. "Come back and face your fate you coward!" Luna yelled after him. She was about to chase him when Osamu spoke, "Luna, what are you doing?" Anger still bubbled inside of Luna and she had to take it out on someone. And since Osamu was the reason of her little toy's escape, he would take his place. She turned her attention to a confused looking man, flames dancing in her palms. "Luna, are you-" Osamu was interrupted by Luna yelling, "You let him get away!" Luna sent a wave of fire towards Osamu which he countered with a earth wall that he had raised to protect himself. "Luna, get a hold of yourself!" Osamu yelled when he lowered the earth wall. "You always ruin everything!" Luna yelled as she sent another blast of fire towards him which he had dodged. "Remember, it doesn't control you!" He yelled, trying to bring her back to reality. "Be quiet!" She sent another blast of fire which Osamu blocked once again. "Gain control Luna! You're strong enough to control it!" Osamu continued. "I said be quiet!" she yelled, getting angrier. "This isn't you! Fight it Luna! Take control!" Luna clenched her fist. "SHUT UP!" she yelled as a circle of flames emitted from her body, spreading out around her. Osamu raised another earth wall as a shield when the flames passed him. When everything was quiet, he lowered the wall and saw that Luna was now sitting on the ground, with her legs pulled up against her body as she held them tight. He couldn't see her face because it was hid between her arms. He sighed and walked towards her. "Luna?" he asked but she didn't move from her position. He sat down beside her and patted her back. "Luna, come on. Look at me," he encouraged. Luna slowly lifted her head to look at Osamu. Her eyes were back to their original color but they were now stained red from crying. "I'm so sorry Osamu. I couldn't control it," she sobbed. "It's okay. Everything is fine, " he reassured and pulled her in for a hug. She cried softly into his chest. "It's getting harder to control," she said once she was able to stop the sobs. "We'll figure something out. Everything will be alright," he stated but in his heart, he wasn't so sure it was the truth.

*MEANWHILE, IN THE FIRENATION *

A thirteen year old Zuko kneeled in front of his father, his left eye covered in a bandage. "You have dishonored me and in doing so, you have dishonored this nation," Fire Lord Ozai's voice echoed through the throne room. Zuko flinched at his father's words. "You are to depart immediately. You shall live in exile and can only return if you bring me the Avatar," Ozai instructed. "But father, the Avatar went missing nearly a hundred years ago. How am I suppose to find him?" Zuko asked. "That is not my problem," The Firelord said, his voice cold. "Please father," Zuko pleaded. Ozai looked down at his son, feeling disgusted by his son's show of weakness. "Very well," the Fire Lord said. "If you fail to find the Avatar, the Firenation has one more threat that needs to be disposed of. The Elemental." Zuko looked up at his father shocked. "But father, I thought they were just a myth." A smirk appeared on the Fire Lord's face, not visible through the wall of flames. "Oh, they are as real as you and I. And they are a great threat to my plans. Bring her to me and in return, I will grant you your honor," Ozai instructed. "Her? So you've seen her?" Zuko asked, hoping to get more information. "I've only heard of her. Four years ago your grandfather sent Zhao and a few of his men to...dispose of her. Only Zhao had returned. Now, tell me...how powerful must one be to take out nine of the Firenation's finest soldiers at the age of nine?" Zuko gulped before bowing his head and saying, "I won't fail you father." Ozai looked at his son, his eyes as hard as stone. "You better not, or the consequences will be much worse than just a little scar." Zuko nodded once, then stood up and walked out of the door, knowing he won't be returning anytime soon.
