Warfare had since the transition into the 20th century Before troops would line up ans take turns out shooting. (i know 19th century warfare was wierd it had to do with honor or something) but that with invention of tanks,airplanes and rapid fire machine guns
With tanks troops could now easily shred through enemy barbed wire and get cover
Airplanes could scout and drop grenades from above
In earlier they had muskets
muskets could only fire one bullet at a time but now with rapid fire machine guns you could fire 20
