the british wanted to knock the ottoman empire out of the war
ottoman bombing on egypt were disrupting british trade
so they prepared a offensive at gallipoli
this would be this first amphibious landing in modern history
troops would land on beaches (using boats of course) and make their way to the ottoman capital
constantinople

on may 5th 1915 500,000 troops landed on the beaches
this battlion was unique because it was mostly made up of british colonial troops from around the world here are the demographics:
india: 90000
australia and new zealand: 80000
canada: 50000
south africa: 35000
others: 95000 ( from hong kong,gibraltar, british pacific terrioties , myanmar and iranian volunteer core)
