Katniss' POV:

Knuckles banging against my wooden door erupt in my eardrums and alert me of a visitor. I immediately stand up from my seat in the living room and walk over to the door down the hallway.

My hand grasps onto the polished yet cracked door knob and slowly rotate it. I pull the door towards me and reveal the visitor. I gasp and my hand slips from the door handle.

"P-Peeta?" I stutter. Is it really him?

"Hey." He simply replies. I'm still bewildered and my thoughts seem to turn into dialogue.

"I thought you were coming back in a couple of weeks?" Peeta nods and looks down at the stone ground.

"Yeah, I finished my 5 month treatment early so they let me come home." Peeta explains and I nod slowly. "Can I?" He asks pointing to the hallway behind me.

"Oh! Yeah. Come in." I say and gesture him in, stepping to the side. Peeta gives me a small smile and enters.

I close the door and I can't seem to keep my eyes off of him. He's so different from when I last saw him at the end of the war. I lead him into the living room, where I was before, and he places himself in one of the comfortable couches.

He sits and I stand in silence for a couple of minutes before Peeta dares to break it. "This place brings so many memories." Peeta states and my eyes widen in fear. An attack could happen any second.

"Sh-should we go for a walk in the woods?" I suggest and he looks towards me.

"Sure." He answers and I nod.

I head towards the wall where my father's jacket hangs from a hook and my boots sit parallel to each other directly below of it. I slip them on and show Peeta to the back door and we head towards the woods.

We walk silently side by side. My eyes stay staring at an unknown spot on the dirt path in front of me. Minutes tick by quickly and I glance ahead and my eyes register this known area. The tree line. I turn quickly and head towards the trees, now directly in front of me with no need to duck under a fence as it was destroyed.

I look briefly behind me to see Peeta behind me. I slightly smile but I quickly fades, it doesn't need to be there. I silently sigh and walk with Peeta towards my place. The lake.

Even though I last went into the woods months ago, I still know the direct path. 8 minutes of walking pass like a light switch flicked off and the sun reflecting water attacks my eyes.

I squint but continue walking to a group of boulder rocks near the water edge. I sit down and wait for Peeta too. I hear the click of his prosthetic leg and look towards him.

"Now. What have you been doing since the war?" Peeta asks, engaging us into a catch-up talk. My eyes scan the landscape while I think of my response.

"Well, I basically isolated myself in the premises of my house." I say with a huff of laughter. I look at Peeta and he shows a look of concern. "You?" I ask to change the subject slightly.

"Nothing much. Living in a hospital room and getting all these treatment procedures done." Peeta answers and I nod.

We continue to exchange small talk but it all fades into a silence. I sigh as the silence continues and watch as the trees sway slightly in the afternoon breeze.

"The hijacking didn't make me stop loving you Katniss." Peeta says once again to break the silence and I turn to look at him confused.

"Really? You still loved me? I thought Snow deleted all the memories of us? Or at least altered them?" I ask.

"Yes." Peeta simply replies before turning his head from the lake and looking deep into my eyes. "But deep down there was a reminder that I loved you. I just couldn't get in into my head and through my mouth in words."

This moment activates in my mind. Activates something I never thought would be triggered. He actually still loved me deep down through all that terrible hijacking and there is a way. A way he can come back to me. It might be slowly but I can now get my boy with the bread back.

I close my eyes and try to plant it. The reality needing to sink in.

This must leave an opportunity for him. Immediately I feel something against my lips. I open my eyes in an instant and see Peeta kissing me. Relaxed slightly, I close my eyes again. I then feel the hunger, the hunger I have experienced before. The type when we kissed in the quell arena. I deepen it, remembering the memory clearly and Peeta's hands slide to hold mine.

I smile through the kiss and get the urge to stop. Regretting my decision, I break my lips from his and open my eyes.

We lean our heads forward and our foreheads touch. I smile again and so does Peeta. We look into each other's eyes and Peeta lifts his hand. I don't know where he wants it to go but his destination is my cheek.

We stay silently, getting the thought that we just kissed for the first time since the war.

"You're trying to come back to me aren't you?" He smile and replies.

"Why wouldn't I?"
