It was Jace Montgomery's first day back at school since the summer holidays so he had to make sure he looked his best. The king of school couldn't show up in slacks and a t-shirt. Plus, Lydia would kill him if he showed up in that. He looked himself over in the mirror and smiled approvingly.

Grabbing his bag he made his way down the stairs of his two story house. It was just his mum and himself in the big house, since his dad ran off with his dance teacher. Safe to say after that he quit dancing. Jace was only 12 at the time when he heard about his dad running off. He hadn't seen him since then. It was like he just disappeared. It had been the biggest scandal in Beacon Hills. Jace's mum was a lawyer so she was well known. When they would walk down the streets people would stop to tell them they were sorry and Jace hated it. He knew they didn't care, they only wanted more gossip, the inside story. His mum, Miranda would lie and say she was happy he was gone. That he was just dead weight and they had grown apart some time ago. But that wasn't the case at all. Jace knew that his mum was still very deeply in love with his father and it hurt Jace when he could hear his mum crying in the other room. He did everything he could to help her but found it useless. Nothing could fill the hole that his father had left.

Jace entered the kitchen and picked up a juicy, red apple for his breakfast. "Morning mum." He greeted, seeing his mother hunched over the counter digging through her bag. "What are you doing?"

"I can't seem to find my credit card." Jace instantly looked down and took a big bite out of his apple. "Maybe I should cancel it."

He coughed slightly, covering his mouth then looking up at his frustrated mother. "Oh no, don't do that. Your always misplacing that thing. It'll turn up eventually."

"You're right. I'm just going to check my room. Maybe I dropped in under the bed."

Once he saw his mother was out of sight, Jace picked up his bag and rummaged through. Finding his mothers credit card was easy and he quickly walked over and placed it in a little pocket inside his mothers purse. Smiling to himself, he went over to the bin and threw the core of his Apple out. A ding came from his back pocket and he retrieved his phone, seeing it was a new message from Lydia Martin.

LYDIA: hey bestie. hurry up and get here i'm sick of listening to jackson and his friends. oh, and send me a selfie of what you've chosen to wear.

Jace laughed at the text before going into his camera and taking a selfie, putting on duck lips and one hand on his head as a pose.

JACE: sorry i'm going at fast as i can anyway i'll be there soon love you.

Jace pressed send along with the photo just as his mum reentered the room. "No luck?" He asked, even though he knew the answer. He didn't need his mum finding out about taking her credit card whenever he and Lydia wanted to shop.
