I left my favourite coffee shop, Central Perk while taking a sip of my low fat latte. I walked at a steady pace through the park, towards work. How was the atmosphere going to be like? I hope it won’t be sexual because it will be pretty hard to focus on work if it is. There aren’t any meetings today and I’ve completed most of my work so I’ll get to leave early which is good because I need to buy a drop dead gorgeous dress for the barbecue. I already had already asked Chantelle and Stephanie if they wanted to go but Stephanie was going away with her long term boyfriend and Chantelle couldn’t get away from work. I’ve barely seen them since I started working but we texted all the time and I promised to introduce them to my work friends soon. I need to ask the girls if they want to go with me especially since I want them to meet Jessica. I know they’ll love her as much as I do. Chris is already going which is great since I’ve barely seen him lately and it will give him a chance to meet the girls. The maximum people I could invite were eight, so I could still invite four more. I know who I want to invite but it’s not possible.

I continued to walk down the path when I see a little boy crying. He looked familiar but I couldn’t see his face well since it was place in his lap. I looked around before approaching him.

“Hello, there,” I started and his head immediately snapped up. Now I know why he looked familiar, he was the boy I met on my first day at work. Now what was his name, John, Jay oh that’s it Jayden. This brought a smile to my face.

“Hi Jayden, I’m Rose do you remember me?” He nodded wiping away his tears. I frowned. Why is it that whenever I see him, he’s crying. I looked at him for any signs of cuts or bruises, but there weren’t any.

“What wrong Jay? Where’s mom or dad?” I said softly, wanting him to open up.

“On pwane,” he sniffed. Pwane, I think he means plane.

“Ok, so who are you here with?”

“No one, I ran away from my unwle’s house.”

“Really? Why did you run away?”

“Because, Uncle J and Aunty Is were fighting.” The tears stopped flowing from his eyes and he began sniffing. I gave him tissue for his runny nose. I smoothed his hair and looked at my watch. If I didn’t leave soon I would be late which could make everything between me and James even more awkward. But, I couldn’t just leave him here alone.

“Jayden, I need you to come with me to work because I can’t leave you here. But as soon as were there, I’ll tell my boss that I need to take you to your uncle’s house and we’ll go there. Is that ok with you?” He nodded taking my hand in his and we walked towards work. As soon as we reached the top floor, I saw Jazz and Kat talking.

“Hi, guys, is James in yet?” They nodded looking at Jayden. He was staring around the room astonished.

“Wow, this is where you work. It’s so big,” he said. I looked back at Kat and Jazz, who were wearing identical confused looks.

“Oh this is Jayden and I’ll explain later.” I walked to my office still holding Jayden’s hand. I opened my office door and walked in.

“Take a seat for a second Jay,” I said taking off my coat and putting down my bag. I logged in on my computer before going back to Jayden.

“Come on its time to go see my boss,” I said taking his hand again. We walked to James’ door and knocked. He there was no reply. I could hear shouting through the door. I opened the door slightly to see James pacing up and down the room looking very frustrated and and angry. He was on the phone so he didn’t notice me.

“We were just talking when we heard the door shut.” There was a pause before he kept on shouting down the phone. Jayden poked his head through the gap trying to see James. He gasped and I looked at him.

“That’s my uncle,” he whispered. Oh shit. I closed the door silently and turned to Jay. Now that I think of it he does have his eyes.

“Okay, don’t panic everything will be fine,” I said more to myself then him. I knocked loudly on the door and this time he said come in. I opened the door slightly so he could only see me.

“Rose this isn’t a good time. My nephew has-” he stopped short as he caught view of Jayden. He ended his phone call. He opened out his arms and Jayden ran into them. I watched as they bonded. I could tell he really cared about Jayden. I closed the door behind me.

“Rose, how did you know he was my nephew? And where did you find him?”

“I didn’t know you were even related until a minute ago and I found him in the park crying.”  There was an awkward silence.

“Thank you Rose,” he said standing up straight. We stared into each other’s eyes as if no one else was in the room. Feelings from last night came back to me and the room started to feel hotter when suddenly there was a yawn. I broke my eyes to see Jayden wiping his eyes looking tired. He looked so adorable.

“He’s been missing since during the night so he must be tired,” James told me. I went over to Jay and picked him up, letting him relax in my eyes. His eyes fell shut and a few seconds later we could hear light snores. Aw he’s so cute. I keep looking at his sleeping face in my arms. When I look up I see that James is looking at me.

“You really have a way with kids, don’t you?” I smiled at this. I’ve always loved kids and definitely wanted some of my own.

“Is there anywhere I can put him to sleep? I don’t want to wake him.” He nodded and walked towards a door I’ve never been through. I assumed that it was a cupboard or something but boy was I wrong. I walked through the door and I was in a lounge. From here I could see a beautiful kitchen and in the opposite direction a door which I assume is a bedroom. This was a freaking house.

“James, why is there a house in a work building?”

“Well I work till late so sometimes there’s no point of me going home to sleep. So I decided to turn a few rooms into a mini apartment.” I stood there astonished. I guess it’s a good idea especially since I knew how late he would work up until but still how did I not know about this? “Come on, I’ll show you the bedroom so you can put Jayden down.”

I followed him to the bedroom door. He opened it to revel a king sized bed and some wardrobes. One of the doors of the wardrobe was opened so I could see there were suits in them. I walked to the bed and James pulled down the duvet and I put Jayden down, making sure his head was nicely on the pillow. James and I pulled the duvet to his neck and I stroked his hair as James walked to the door. I got up and walked to the door too. I flicked off the lights and quietly closed the door. I walked over to James who was standing at the door to his office.

“Thanks again Rose. I really do appreciate it,” he said before leaving in to peck my cheek. When he leaned pack I smiled and shrugged my shoulder.

“I know,” I said bubbly and we left the apartment.
