A/N: Sooo I have a question. Is it grey, or gray. I ended up using grey because it looked better but I'm in America and I've heard that gray is more common here...? I don't even know anymore. But anyway!

Talia couldn't hold in her grin when she heard Derek's car drive on the road to the house. She could now smell not only her sons familiar sent, but another, sweet and young scent. She opened the door and stepped out to the porch, joining Peter who had decided to wait outside for the couple's arrival.

She grinned at her brother and the black car came into view. Another happy intake of air and the doors were opening. Out stepped Derek and a new face. The face of a young, worried boy. Anxious, to be exact. She could smell his nerves and was wondering if he was afraid of them.

Derek approached the boy and he gratefully stepped into her sons side. He was wearing Derek's new leather jacket and the sight of it made her smile. He had found the one. Derek had finally found the person that would bring the happiness back to his eyes.

"Mom, Peter, I would like to introduce you guys to my mate. This is Stiles. Stiles, this is my mother and my uncle Peter." Derek hugged the frail boy to his side as he made the introductions.

"It's very nice to meet you," Talia said with a smile big enough to consume them all.

Stiles looked up and responded politely, "You too ma'am. Derek has told me many things about you."

"Oh, has he? All good I hope."

"Yes ma'am," Stiles responded.

"Call me Talia."

"So, this is my room," Derek opened the door to the room that still smelled like dread. He smiled to himself, he would never feel lonely again.

The walls were a rich, grey color and the furniture was all deep cherry oak. The room was sleek and well lived in, but still tidy. Derek didn't have many pictures on his walls. No cars or half naked girls. Only a few of his family and one of himself and his mother shifted into their wolf forms. Both werewolves had the ability to completely transform into wolves, even though Derek wasn't an alpha. The gene had been carried down to both of them and had skipped all of their other siblings. It was a true honor to be able to fully shift.

In the picture there were two completely black wolves. The only difference between the two was that Derek had blue eyes and his mothers were red. Derek may have been an alpha, but his mother was the families alpha. His alpha gene was just dormant because of his mother.

In young, born alphas, the alpha gene does not become apparent until the current alpha of the pack dies. That means that until Talia died, neither Derek nor Laura would show their alpha genes. So, for the time being, their eyes were yellow, or blue in Derek's case, and they did not show the aggressiveness or power of an alpha. They acted more like betas to their mother.

Derek gained his blue eyes when he was sixteen. Her name was Paige and she was innocent when Derek killed her.

Paige and Derek were in love. The perfect couple. They had both believed that they were destine to be mates, they just had to wait and see.

One night, Derek found Paige. She had been shot with a wolfsbane bullet, one of werewolves only weakness. Derek didn't know how or who had shot her, but the infection had made it to her heart and she was suffering. Derek couldn't stand it and he knew this was the end for the girl he so dearly loved. He ended her agony quick and easy and his eyes had shown blue from then on.

Derek had always been saddened when he saw his blue eyes, so as Stiles looked intently at the picture, intently at Derek's wolf, Derek felt pressured to tell his story. He told Stiles about the honor of shifting into a real wolf and then he told him all about Paige. From how he loved her to how he ended her life. Stiles was very understanding and held Derek's hand as they both sat on his big bed.

As Derek nestled his face further into Stiles' side, he decided that the boy was going to be a good mate after all.
