Olivia is really nervous to see how the baby is doing. The fear is something she seriously needs to get under control in order to get through this pregnancy.
"Is he okay?" Olivia asks.
"Well, it's too early to determine the sex, but yes. Your son or daughter is looking great, Liv!"
"Really?"
"Yes!" she exclaims. "Elliot tells me you've been stressing a lot lately." Olivia looks up and glares at him. "Can I ask why?"
"I don't know."
"Olivia, I think I know you well enough to know that isn't true. I'm your doctor, but i'm also your friend, your shoulder to cry on, i'm your husband when you don't like your own." They all laugh.
"I might take you up on that," Olivia jokes. "I guess i'm just scared that it'll be like last time."
"And i've told her that it won't be, that everything will be okay," Elliot says.
"Actually, there is no way to tell at this point, you know that. But, there is a no chance that this one may have CIPA as well. Both parents need to carry the gene. We can find out when we do tests for disorders and what not if he or she has anything, but do not stress over that right now. We will cross that bridge when we get to it."
"Easier said than done.."
Elliot grabs her hands and kisses the back of it. That was his failed attempt at making her feel better. "It'll be alright."
"You two have been through a lot," Dr. Jacobs says. She is also Olivia's gynecologist, that's actually why Olivia chose her to be her OB. So with that being said, they have time to catch up on things that are going on. "but you've overcome a hell of a lot more than most people can. Just remember, every pregnancy is different. There's only a twenty-five percent chance that he or she will get it."
"So..he should be okay?"
"Yes, and your next appointment is when we can find out the sex!"
"It's a boy," Olivia says matter-of-factly. "I just know it!"
"She calls it her 'motherly instinct'," Elliot jokes.
"Well, we'll know for sure in a few weeks. You know the drill, Wendy will give you your stuff at the front desk."
*******
Olivia and Elliot are showing Eli and Dylan the sonogram pictures. It isn't new to Eli, he's seen them multiple times from when Olivia was pregnant, but it's all new to Dylan. She didn't understand why babies looked that way or why they're in the mother's bellies.
"But why?"
"Okay, it's like this: When mommies and daddies love each other-"
Olivia hit Elliot's arm. "Elliot!"
"What?"
"We are not having this conversation with a three year old!"
"Yes, ma'am," he says sarcastically and gets up.
"Mommy! How they get there?!"
"They just do, honey. Babies are very special, just like you and your brother."
"Does God put them in there?"
Elliot and Olivia both look at each other. Elliot is religious, but Olivia is not. She never has been. "Uh, honey that's just not-"
"Yeah. God puts them in there."
"Oh," Dylan says. "Okay!" she exclaims, running over to him. "I wuv you, daddy!"
