Let me be blunt -- I see no benefit to continuing work on the phosphorus blade. In fact, I believe the base concept is innately flawed. Its thermal output is dwarfed by that of N2 mines*and* the incendiary ammunition Second Branch is producing for the pallet rifle. We can expect either of those options to be sufficient against an enemy specifically vulnerable to heat. Furthermore, your own tests with the prototype have shown that, following extended periods of use, the weapon inevitably overcomes the maximum operating temperature of the standard B-Type armor. I must therefore question what exactly we have to gain from further investment in a platform that's both inefficient and dangerous to its user.

Please don't take me wrong. You've all done excellent work here. This is exactly the sort of innovative, out-of-the-box engineering I hope to see more of from this department. I also fully concede that, if nothing else, Project LUCIFER has been a productive thought experiment. Your approach to the internal power source has already been extremely useful to the progressive blade team. However, I think it's past time we moved on to other avenues of research.

I'm sorry. But unless one of you can tell me something I'm missing regarding the project's strategic value, my decision stands. You'll all receive your new assignments on Monday.

No, Dr. Savage -- "because it's cool" does *not* constitute a form of strategic value.
