Misato's Apartment
A few days prior
Misato looked up curiously as the children walked in. "You're back late."
Asuka tossed her hair back. "We wouldn't have been if Mr. Panic Attack here hadn't insisted we take a completely different route." She glanced over as Shinji opened his bag to pull out his books. The hazmat mask had been packed on top of everything else. "Is that a... do you bring that thing everywhere with you?"
"Uh..." Shinji froze in place. "... yes."
She stared at him for a moment, then shook her head. "This is my life now," she muttered. "I'm surrounded by weirdos." She stalked out of the kitchen.
Misato took a sip of her coffee. Shinji stayed in place. "So..."
He swallowed. "There's... um... at this one corner. There's this... statue."
They looked at each other. There was a long pause.
The captain put down her coffee cup. "I'll take care of it," she said, her voice like steel.
