The Pink Umbrella

The pink umbrella
Always there
Didn't ask, didn't care
Protecting her through snow and rain
The pink umbrella
always stayed.

And as the girl walked, to places unknown
In the dark, in the cold, completely alone
There was nothing to keep her warm
But the umbrella, and remembering the man she used to know

Her father, loving, caring, wise,
when she was young, as a surprise,
had made it a gift to make her glad
to cheer her up, whenever she was sad

She loved it, always praying for rain,
just so she could use it again
Sometimes pretending it was a sword
the pink umbrella she much adored

Twirling in the rain
droplets shining, spraying
She danced in the weather
While wishing it could last forever

The pink umbrella
Always there
Didn't ask, didn't care
Protecting her when she was afraid
The Pink Umbrella
always stayed.

Her mother loved her a lot, too
But her time was running out, she knew
She was sick, and didn't have long
So she said her last words, and passed along.

"Keep your heart like the pink umbrella
'Cause even as you cry,
Let your tears run off the side
And forget them as they dry."

The pink umbrella
Always there
Didn't ask, didn't care
Protecting her through sorrow and strain
The Pink Umbrella
always stayed.

Though her mother was dead, true
The girl had her father to help her through
Then the day came,
He turned to the drink
And their family bond
was pushed to the brink

Gone were the days of happy smiles,
Of morning talks and dances on the kitchen tiles
Her father and her drifted apart
There was no way to fix his broken heart

The pink umbrella
Always there
Didn't ask, didn't care
Protecting her through sadness and pain
The Pink Umbrella
always stayed.

One day on the edge of breaking
Her father yelled, his voice was raging
Ineibrated, something snapped
He hit her with a painful slap

She ran away crying, as fast as she could
And stumbled upon something made out of wood
Grabbing it, she ran blindly out in the snow
With not a single thought to where she'd go

The pink umbrella
Always there
Didn't ask, didn't care
Protecting her through snow and rain
The Pink Umbrella
always stayed.

Stumbling in the bitter cold
She fell upon what she carried, and lo and behold
The pink umbrella after all this time
Why it showed up then, there was no reason or rhyme

And as she walked, to places unknown
In the dark, in the cold, completely alone
There was one thing keeping her warm
The umbrella, and remembering the man she used to know

The pink umbrella
Always there
Didn't ask, didn't care
Protecting her as she ran
The Pink Umbrella
never left her hand
