Chapter 40

Knock. Knock.

I started and mom looked up from where she was helping me with my math homework. It was Saturday morning and I wasn't even dressed as mom helped me with schoolwork, eating cookies for breakfast.

"I'll get it." I said, pushing my chair out. Who on Earth would be visiting us? I thought as I opened the door. A girl with long, black hair and a big smile was standing in the doorway.

"Hey, (Y/n)!"

"Hey, Zay- Zay!" I grinned, pulling her into a hug. Zatanna quickly returned it then pulled away. "What're you doin' here?" I asked.

"Artemis, Megan, and I was wondering if you'd like to come for a girls' night out! No guys allowed. Black Canary's gonna be there as well."

I pursed my lips. I really wanted to hang out with mom, but a girl's night out sounded like so much fun. "Here, I'll ask my mom. C'mon in." I held the door open and Zatanna followed me inside. "Hey, mom?"

"Yeah, sweetie? Who's this?" Mom looked up from my homework.

"This is Zee. She invited me to a girls' night out, and I was wondering if I could go. No boys allowed."

Mom's eyes lit up. "Oh, how nice it is to meet you, Zatanna! I'm Mrs. (L/n), but you can call me (Mom's name)." Your mom held out a hand.

Zatanna shook it with a big smile. "Nice, to meet you, Miss (L/n)."

Mom smiled. "As for girls' night out, of course! You need a little time off from stress, especially boys. Bleh." She wiggled her tongue, causing us to laugh. "Where are ya'll going? And you'll have a chaperon, right?"

"'Course!" Zatanna assured. "A good friend of ours, Laurel. No one's more qualified to watch us than maybe Wonder Woman." This caused mom to laugh, but I knew for a fact that what Zatanna said about Black Canary was true. "We're gonna go to an arcade, get some dinner, and hang out watching a couple movies."

"Sounds like fun, I'm jealous!" Mom said.

"I'll go get dressed." I said, dashing off. I quickly threw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, grabbing my sweater. I dashed back out, still combing my hair. "Okay, I'm-- Ow!-- Ready."

Zatanna laughed. "I'll fix your hair later. C'mon, the others are waiting!" She grabbed my wrist and dragged me out of the apartment.

"Bye, mom!"

"Bye!" Mom laughed.

I finally got my feet and began to follow Zatanna out of the building. She stopped by the street corner as we waited for the cars to pass. "Elgantnu riah." She muttered as she waited. "Diarb."

My hair magically (literally) untangled itself and made a pretty braid I couldn't have done in a million years. "Thanks!"

Zatanna smiled and drug me across the street to where Meg'han, Black Canary, and Artemis were waiting, in normal clothes of course. "Ready for some fun?" Meg'han asked excitedly.

"Yes!" I replied eagerly.

We all made our way to an arcade where we spent a good three hours wasting our money, screaming, and hitting each other. Black Canary turned out to be really good (and super competitive) at foosball, and we practically killed each other trying to win.

Artemis and Zatanna played Terminator until Zatanna died and I kicked her off. Meg'han and I ended up having a Tertis competition which Zatanna soon joined. It was just all around fun.

After burning all those calories screaming like crazy people, we went to a pizza shop and practically vacuumed down the whole place. We laughed and bumped into each other as we left, all on sugar highs from all the soda, when I suddenly bumped into someone.

"Oh, geez, sorry I--" I stopped short when I saw who it was.

Wally look away, his lips pulled tightly together. "It's- It's fine."

So much for a great time.
