A Dimming Light

When the light grows dim
And your heart pounds
Begging you to change the bulb
That's when you know
That's when you're sure
That you don't belong
At least not here
Where the light is
Always needed, always on
Never does here allow
A quiet time
To turn out the light
And just exist
Maybe elsewhere
There might be a place
With fresh bulbs
And simple requests
"Shed a lil' light on my paper"
"Can you help me search"
And generous offers
"Can you see now"
"Don't strain your eyes"
A place of calm quiet
Where they know how
To turn out the lights
Breathe a little
And finally
Finally
See the stars

With this hope
In your heart
The light flickers
It stutters
It goes out
Time to change the bulb
Time to search out
To get up and go
Somewhere else
Somewhere new
Sigh internally
Sigh externally
Alert the world
(Or at least those around you)
That it is, at last
Time to move on
To get away
And focus your eyes
Up and above
Far beyond the stars
