Chapter 39: The Uchiha Siblings [Naruto]

Kakashi

To tell you the truth? I had given up on holding back tears. I should have known better. I should never have put that burden of leading a team on Rin. In the end she did what I would have done; given her life to protect her team. I glanced up at Sasuke who had his hands clenched together with his forehead leaning against them on the floor beneath him were three spots where a few tears had fallen. Sasuke had brought her in three nights ago and she seemed to respond well to treatment then suddenly this morning nothing and she was rushed into the operating room. According to Suki this was the closest Rin has been to death.

“Kakashi sensei!” I looked up swiftly wiping my eye in the process. Naruto, Sakura, Jazmine and Shikamaru ran towards us sliding to a stop once they reached me.

“Asuma sensei said you wanted us here, what’s going on?” Jazmine demanded. I took slow breath as I looked at the closed doors of the operating room.

“Rin is dying…” I looked up when Sasuke slammed a fist into the wall behind him leaving a dent from the impact.

“Don’t say that!” I stared at him unsure of what to do until Shikamaru walked to him.

“Sasuke.” He glanced up slightly.

“This is just like last time. Just like when she was kidnapped by the Akatsuki, just like after her preliminary match, it’s just like anytime Rin’s life has been in danger.”

“She’s never been this close before. I can’t lose her again, not forever.” I noticed him nod as he took a seat beside him.

“And you think I can? She’s going to be alright Sasuke. She’s my best friend and your little sister and we know her better. She wouldn’t leave either of us.” Sasuke nodded slightly and released a slow breath before leaning back against the wall. Shikamaru’s eyes flickered to me then.

“Have a little faith in your girlfriend’s chances of survival. She went through hell to be with you Kakashi Sensei and she wouldn’t give it up so easily.” I stared at him but he looked away staring back at his hands. I sighed lightly as rested my head against the wall behind me. Naruto, Jazmine and Sakura finally taking a seat. I had faith in Rin something just felt different about this time.

Sasuke

I looked up when the doors of the operating room finally opened and jumped to my feet the same time Kakashi sensei, Jazmine and Shikamaru did. Suki stepped out closing the doors behind her, her white gloves were stained with blood and blotches of red decorated her white medical coat. She looked up at us with tired silver eyes and let out a soft sigh as she pulled off her gloves.

“How’s Rin?” Shikamaru finally asked breaking the silence. I noticed her eyebrows furrow slightly and she released another sigh.

“Rin is stable but barely, were going to transfer her to the emergency ward and have nurses and doctors monitoring her twenty four seven.” I nodded slightly.

“We’ll I didn’t fully realize the strain that had been put on her body since no one knew what jutsu she used. Not only that but…” She paused and closed her eyes for a moment before looking back up at us.

“Kakashi, Sasuke I’d like to speak with you alone please.” I glanced at Shikamaru, the Jazmine and met each of their gaze’s before looking back at Suki.

“Could Shikamaru and Jazmine stay?” Suki sighed but nodded understanding the relationship they had to Rin. I glanced to Naruto and Sakura and reluctantly they left.
