Marco's POV

After talking to Lance regarding Miguel and Cassie's connection.

I remembered that day when Lance finally woke up from his comma. His bruises were almost fully healed and his body was on its way to recovery. It was his emotional state that I was very worried about.

He was not aware of what else happened on that supposed to be simple and fun night which turned into a tragedy.

"Lance, how are you feeling?"

"Marco, what happened? Why am I here in the hospital?"

"You've had an accident. Wait, I'll call the doctor."

"Mr. Montgomery you were lucky to have survived. Just be back after a week so we can start with your therapy."

After the doctor checked his vitals, he advised them that he can go home in two days then can start with his therapy. His left leg were broken and will still need therapy to be fully recovered.

After the doctor left, Lance continued to ask his questions.

"Marco, where are my parents? Have you called them? How long was I out and what accident are you all talking about? I still don't remember what happened."

This is the most difficult thing I had to do. I had to deliver the news. I had to tell him the truth.

"Lance, you've been here for two months. You were in a comma because of some accident."

Marco thought that it was better to leave some of the details out to lessen the blow of his news but Lance needed to hear everything.

"How can I be in an accident when all I remember was feeling sick at Miguel's house? Wait, I think I remember something. It was like a dream but I felt everything. He was very mad at me, he was kicking and punching me. I felt every blow but I cannot get out of my dream. . . it was like I was in a nightmare. . ." Then, realization hit him like a heavy freight train.

". . .oh. . . it was real. . . it was not a dream. . ."

I can feel the tears flowing from my eyes as I saw the realization and understanding on Lance's face. He was confused, sad and pained at the same time.

"Why Marco? What have I done to deserve that wrath from him?" His voice filled with grief and disappointment was heartbreaking.

"It was all a misunderstanding."

"What? I don't recall any argument we had. We always get along. You know that."

"Lance, Sophia hit on you while you were sick and unconscious. Miguel saw her. Knowing how jealous and obsessed he was with that b*tch Sophia, he did not even consider that you may be innocent."

"What?! I was not even aware of what was happening around me. . . how can he believe her instead of me?"

"I really don't know what happened to him to lose his sanity. There's no excuse to what he did to you."

"I lost my best friend just because of a capricious girl?" His pain was now replaced with exasperation and resentment.

"Lance. . . Miguel was not the only thing you lost that night."

"What could possibly be worse and painful than losing one of my best friends?"

At that moment, I can't help but look away from him to hide the tears that were threatening to fall from my eyes.

"When you had that accident, we brought you to the hospital. You were far gone, the doctors thought you will not survive. . ."

". . . It was also raining hard that night. Some roads were even blocked because of flood. Your parents rushed to the hospital after finding out what happened. . ."

". . . Your. . . your father was driving so fast on their way to the hospital. . . and with the slippery road and heavy outpour, he lost control  . . . and the car skidded to the opposite lane where a fuel truck lost its break. The collision caused an explosion and . . ."

"Stop! I can't hear anymore. Please stop." Lance was now wretched in agony and crying.

Seeing his grieving face was enough to break anyone's heart. I know how close Lance was to his parents. They were like a perfect family. A family broken by a dreadful and tragic accident that could have been avoided.

"I don't have anyone else now. I was not even given a chance to say proper goodbye to them. . . How can life be so cruel? What have I done to deserve this pain Im feeling right now?"

If only I could reverse time. There were various scenarios that could have prevented what happened. I could have stayed with him that night. I could have proven to Miguel weeks before of his girlfriend's real promiscuous nature. There were a lot of what ifs but for now, I can't do anything else but to ensure that Lance's life will go on.

It pained me to see him sobbing in grief. I approached him to comfort him. He tried to fight me and push me away at first but I did not give up. I will not give up on him. I am all he's got and I will never abandon him.

When Lance was released from the hospital, he moved in with Marco's family and after a few weeks where everything has been settled with the Montgomery's business in Spain, all of them flew to California to start a new life. Marco's parents were under the employ of Lance's grandfather who owns a billion dollar investment company all over US. So they all transferred to America so that Lance can be with his grandparents.

"Marco, thank you for everything." Lance was very grateful to Marco and his family.

"I always got your back. Don't ever forget that. We're more than blood brothers."

Marco and Lance did not return to school. They tried to file complaints for the beating that Miguel did to Lance but due to his family's influence in Spain, they were ignored by the police and justice system in Barcelona.

As for Sophia, she was reported to be missing for several days before being found dead in an alley. The cause of death was rape and a bullet to her head.

As for Miguel, Marco and Lance's friendship, some things can never be forgiven and some things were not meant to be forgotten. And for Lance, what Miguel did to him is a sin carved in stone that will be preserved all throughout eternity.
