"That'll be it, I guess." Mrs. Lee concluded as the bell rang. "See you tomorrow."
She went and took a seat back at her desk. I followed her, impatiently wanting her to reconsider the grade she had given me on my project.
"Excuse me." I cleared my throat, holding my project out towards her.
She accepted it.
I went on, "I worked extremely hard on this and stayed up very late perfecting it but I'm not sure why you still gave me a 75 percent? I-"
"Erica, the fact that you stayed up late to finish this indicates that you threw this together in 15 minutes at 1 am because you procrastinated until then. Trust me, I've seen it all."
I started it when I got home from school, I wanted to yell.
She held up my project. "I don't see much work in this. My grade directly reflects the work you put in, so until you prioritize my class you will not be getting past a C. I refuse to change my decision."
With this, she waved me off and started typing something on her computer.
I turned around to the empty classroom and sadly made my way out of the classroom.
The rest of my classmates had already evacuated the room, so luckily no one had to hear the embarrassing conversation.
I dragged my feet as I was walked out into the hallway where my locker was. I managed to get to it so I could unload my backpack.
I grabbed my math and chemistry books with the same hand, but my arm strength wasn't enough to lift the combined weight and they fell to the floor.
I let out a breath, trying to stop the tears from pooling in my eyes.
Right when I was about to pick them up, a long arm reached out from behind me and swiftly lifted them off the floor, placing them into my arms.
I set them in my locker without a word, very aware of who was behind me.
"Not even a thank you?" Jaebum asked. "That hurt."
I closed my locker and secured it with my lock.
"Why so mad?" He bothered.
I faced him, annoyed. "You really don't know?"
His eyes flickered.
"You don't get to just steal my money and embarrass me at work!" I argued. "You never even tutored me in the first place, why should I do anything for you?"
He gave me a sarcastic smile. "Because I'm Im Jaebum, and I don't need anyone else."
I looked up at him with the intention to glare, but was too exhausted to put in the effort and ended up just giving him the puppy eyes.
This made him go quiet for a bit. After a few seconds he resurfaced, "Fine."
I took a step away from him when he asked, "Where's your phone?"
I looked down at the device in my hand and moved it behind my back. Jaebum read my face and snatched it from me.
"What are you doing?" I whined, trying to get it back from him.
Jaebum dodged my hands. "I'm getting your number." He replied, holding my phone next to his.
"Why? That's private information, you know. I could report you."
"Just hold on a second, won't you?" He groaned, pressing a few more buttons before he handed it back to me.
I took it grudgingly. "What did you need my number for?"
"You're coming over to my place tonight, I need to be able to reach you so you won't bail out on me."
"For what?"
"I'm gonna tutor you, Eric. You should be thankful."
