Mark considers suicide. His captors are vigilant, Mark is a valuable hostage. He is force-fed and complies to avoid torture. A rusty paint-tin doubles as chamber-pot and food-bowl.
He learns to survive.
Moon followed by sun lights through cracks, shadows inscribing mural-memories.
'You are free to go,' finally... those words.
A year later Mark is home.
Solicitous friends ring.
'Can't come out tonight, sorry... rather busy'.
Mark is free to watch paint drying, tears brushed away.
A beautiful bright room, ready for his new-born son.
Life.
