Life's contrasts glared on scorched streets; sunset turned strangers into lovers bold.

Cooling their dusty heels by the entrance, wayside coolies sipped hot chai.

One of them glanced towards the library, hoping to glimpse her, before he left for a different life overseas.

He watched the watchman shut its gates.

Like a chapter finished, in a brief love story.

And the librarian closed the book.

'How careless of me,' silently she wept.
