Shawn fell down onto his bed staring at the ceiling. His phone was going off, and he didn't want to answer it. He knew it was rude of him, as everyone was calling to wish him a happy birthday. But he knew he could get away with calling back later and tomorrow. Most would think he was doing something for his birthday. And normally he would. But not now. Now he's just with the world he left for himself.

His phone rang again and Shawn laid there staring at it, waiting to see if the caller would leave a message, which they did.

He frowned when he hear a deep cough and someone clearing their throat on the other end. "Uh hey Shawn."

Shawn felt his face call into a stoic like look as he recognized the voice of Hunter. Why would Hunter be calling Shawn? He should of known Shawn would never answer.

"I was just calling to wish you a happy birthday, and I hope you have a great day. Please call me back." Hunter seemed to of paused to think. "Only if you want to. Anyways I love-" Hunter stopped and sucked in a breathe. "Fuck.." he muttered. "I hope you're doing well." he quickly rushed and hung up.

"Lying again huh, Hunt?" Shawn bitterly laughed.

He debated on calling back, but he didn't know if it was worth it. Hew didn't want to have the awkward catch up call. Besides, no friendly conversation could cover what has happened. There was no use trying at this point, no new memories need to be made, the ones already there was enough.

Shawn couldn't help but wonder why Hunter called, he hasn't called since '98. They haven't even talked, not after the incident. Did someone remind him? No.. he decided, Hunter wouldn't have listened to someone else. Shawn definitely hasn't, even though Kevin insisted that he did. So it was purely Hunter. Maybe Hunter was like him and was thinking.

Maybe the two men found themselves in their garden of memories, and couldn't help but look at the planted ones that they grew together. The memories were good, until it was taken over the weeds. You couldn't look without feeling bittersweet.

But Shawn would doubt Hunter still cared, especially after all of this time. Why would he think of Shawn, surely Hunter had people flocking to him. But In the end, it would always be Shawn. Shawn was the first. And Hunter couldn't deny this attraction to Shawn, and it was obvious whenever the two were around each other.

Shawn shook his head, willing the thoughts of Hunter to go away, along with the tears that began to build up. Shawn nearly laughed at himself, he's crying over a man he should have been over by now, their relationship ended over a year ago,  and it would never be fixed, and he wished he could forget, or at least he wished he could stop thinking about it.

For some reason he found himself growing angry that Hunter even dared to call. Did he know what that was doing to Shawn? Did he even realize? Did he even care? Hunter should have known to leave it alone.

Shawn ended up deciding to not call back, tonight at least. Nothing would change. Hunter wouldn't change. And Shawn knew that he wasn't changing either.
