Chapter One - War

1st POV

Thirteen Packs.

The Dark Shadow Pack, Blood Crescent Pack, Twilight Pack, Eclipse Pack, Dawn Pack, Dusk Pack, Silver Crescent Pack, Pure Pack, Rogue Pack, the Warrior Wolves Pack, the Blood Hounds, White Crescent Pack and the Royal Pack.

My brothers and I are from the Royal Pack, and I was their Alpha. Fitcher was the youngest of us; he turned seventeen only last fall. Blayze was the second youngest, only five months older than Fitcher. Tiberius was a year older than Blayze, Dirk was twenty-two this year and Heath was twenty-six – three years older than I.

So the other twelve packs are still all under our rein, each signed a treaty twelve years ago to ensure peace through out the land. The Dark Shadow Pack and the Pure Pack were the two packs we had most difficulty with as both had very different ideals and beliefs, however now, the Dark Shadow pack was one of our closest alliances. The Pure Pack was still a touch and go, constantly needing to be kept on the look out for.

Why did I have the Alpha title if my brother Heath was older? He passed on the opportunity when it came along. He was nineteen when our father died and he was full of rage. I guess I took it upon myself to ensure the treaty and alliances my father had set up would remain intact. Being the King Alpha was difficult. Mercy, sympathy, any sort of emotion, could be seen as weakness. I had to be feared, otherwise other packs would pick on it, challenge me. I couldn't have that.

"Beo! Your presence is required in the Seminar Hall!"

My ears perked when I heard Fitcher shouting from the castle gates. I felt the rogue in human form, attempt to slither out from underneath my over-sized paw. I dug my claws into his chest, causing him to let out a painful shriek in response.

"P-please Alpha Beowulf! I won't pass through your territory a-again." He stammered, his trembling hands gripped my front right paw tightly, fear glowing in his dark eyes. I snarled. Damn right you won't.

With one swift swipe, my claws slashed through his throat, cutting his head clean off his body. I snorted then turned away and ran towards the tree I had left my shorts at. I shifted into my human form and slipped them on. I then walked promptly towards the gate where Fitcher impatiently waited for me.

"Looks like someone's been taking full advantage of their liberty time." Fitcher humorlessly chuckled.

"Ah Fitch, I can't wait until you kill your first rogue." I stood tall as I strode through the Castle Court yards. Several human citizens stopped to stare, but soon went back to bartering and working on the construction sites.

Most of the humans here new our secret, and understood why we kept our location hidden from the rest of the world. The other humans around were tourists, a large source of our income.

"Yeah," Fitcher laughed nervously, "About that-"

"Three more months until you'll be permitted to lead your first battle." I said proudly and smiled at him, "Now, what is this seminar about?" I asked as we walked inside and up the long corridor, then up two flights of stairs.

"Well, you see, the past few months, despite our council pack meetings and peace making, there has been conflict between a few of the packs-"

"I'm well aware of this Fitcher." I said, my thoughts immediately brought the Pure Pack to mind. They were the usual instigators. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion when we finally entered the large room. In the centre of the area was a large, rectangular table, with thirteen chairs, but only eight were occupied by leaders from different packs.
