THEME MUSIC (“Jazzy Interlude”, Billy Munn)

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: (V.O.) You’re listening to the Adventures of me, Herbert “Daring” Dashwood, and my stalwart ghoul manservant, Argyle. Today’s episode? “The Cassandra Metaphor”

THEME MUSIC CONTINUES TO 0 M 10 S.

SCENE: EXTERIOR. QUIET SOUND OF WIND.

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: I never knew that Penelope had a twin sister.

CASSANDRA: . It’s been a long time since I last saw Penelope, Mr. Dashwood.

ARGYLE: And it’ll be a long time before you see her again.

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: Argyle! Is that sort of thing really necessary?

ARGYLE: Look, boss, you seem to have fallen for this dame as hard as your brother, Mr. Wilberforce, did. How do we know she’s really who she says she is?

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: (THOUGHTFULLY) Yes, how do we know?

WILBERFORCE DASHWOOD: Isn’t my vouching for her enough? I’m your brother, Herbert! And I promise you, Cassandra’s no slaver. In fact, she’s an abolitionist!

ARGYLE: Yeah, well, that double-crossing dame Penelope claimed the same thing!

CASSANDRA: I’ll do any test you set for me, Mr. Dashwood.

WILBERFORCE DASHWOOD: But, Cassandra!

CASSANDRA: Hush, Will. I’m used to cleaning up Penelope’s messes.

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: Very well; tell me, Miss Chase, when did you last see Penelope?

CASSANDRA: (THOUGHTFULLY) Eighteen months ago, Mr. Dashwood. Maybe a little longer.

WILBERFORCE DASHWOOD: That was more than six months before Cassandra and I met, Bertie.

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: (INSISTENT) ‘Daring.’

WILBERFORCE DASHWOOD: (PARTIALLY-SUPPRESSED SIGH) Herbert.

ARGYLE: (QUIETLY) Rockopolis fell less than a year ago, boss.

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: (QUIETLY) I’m well aware of that, Argyle, old chum.

ARGYLE: The girl is lying, boss. How could she be anyone but Penelope?

WILBERFORCE DASHWOOD: (FORCEFULLY) She isn’t lying!

CASSANDRA: Lying? How could I be Penelope? Nobody could survive your Eagle Claw attack!

SOUND EFFECT: MUSICAL ‘STING’ EFFECT

HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: (SHAKY, YET TRIUMPHANT) If you didn’t know Penelope was dead, how did you know the way she died, Miss Chase?

ARGYLE: Or should he say, ‘Penelope’!
