PURE AND TAINTED
CHAPTER TWO
( i'm gonna need a table )

THE NEXT DAY, ALINE HAD boarded a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicopter and flown out to the middle of nowhere. She hadn't packed much, simply because she wanted this mission to be over and done with. There was only enough clothes for about three days, and she'd only brought one of her grimoires with her with little supplies. The whole helicopter ride there, Aline had convinced herself that everything would be over and done with quickly, then she could go back to teaching her dance classes and eating junk food in her apartment alone.

When it finally landed on the helicarrier, a great bulking thing floating in the middle of the ocean, an agent had quickly informed her that Fury was waiting inside for her and that they'd be leaving soon. Aline had just rolled her eyes, especially when the agent spoke so formally with her, but followed him nonetheless. They walked down several hallways and through doorways, most of which required a keycard or a code to be inputted.

The helicarrier was much bigger than she first expected, filled with more people than she could keep track of. Their heartbeats echoed in her ears, all of them creating a mass orchestra that made no sense to her. She was thankful to have fed last night, for all these humans around her was just taunting her. It didn't help that people ran or walked closely past her, files and papers in their hands or speaking into the comms in their ears. She heard a trio of people whispering about her, asking if she was the tribrid they'd reach so much about, but disregarded it. After all these years, she was used to people talking about her as if she were some circus act.

Once arriving on the main deck, the agent that had been leading her quickly left her to find Fury herself. As she stepped through the door, two people passed by her, a woman with short red hair and a man with curly black hair. The woman nodded to her as a sort of greeting and the man gave her an uncomfortable smile, as if it were painful for him to be here, before they left her field of vision.

Her heels clicked against the metal flooring, catching the attention of the S.H.I.E.L.D. director. He spun around and approached her, sticking his head out to shake. "Miss Ashford, pleasure to see you again."

"It always is," Aline teased in that faux sweet voice she knew he hated.

Fury turned beside him, looking to a blond man that was staring out the window. He called for him and when he reached the duo, Fury said, "Captain, I'd like you to meet Aline Ashford. She's here to help us locate Loki."

Steve Rogers 一 that was a name that one could not escape in the second World War. Everyone was talking about him, this scrawny nobody from Brooklyn becoming one of America's greatest heroes. She remembered seeing his posters up almost everywhere in town and at some point, it had started to greatly aggravate her at how often she heard his stupid song. But she had to admit he was more handsome in person; his blond hair had been combed and gelled back, just like the style back so long ago, and his blue eyes were even prettier than the posters made her believe. Steve Rogers had a face that anyone could fall for.

"Captain Rogers," Aline said, grinning wolfishly to herself. "After all this time, it's nice to finally meet you. I have to say, your posters did you no justice." She gave him a playful wink.

Steve gave her a smile in return. "Nice to meet you too. How long do you think it'll take you to locate Loki?"

"Uh..." Aline's dark eyes darted around aimlessly until finally settling on Fury. She turned her body fully towards him then lifted up her bag. "I already have some of my stuff, but I'm going to need a table. And a map and some candles to help draw power. Trust me, this shouldn't take long, maybe twenty minutes since I'm literally starting with nothing. Thanks again, Fury." Rome had always been the better one with tracking, the better one at magic in general, but Aline had forced herself to do better over the years. Her sister, on the other hand, hadn't used magic since they first turned.
