I always get what I want

I always get what I want. And if I want captain, I'll get it.

It was nearing ten o'clock on a Wednesday night, and instead of me being in the comfort of my dorm room, Adele, Nia, Alisha, and I decided it was only right to treat ourselves to something to eat.

The past two days of practice had been extremely challenging to say the least. Today was the final day of learning new choreography, so the rest of the week would (hopefully) be a lot less challenging. We learned the final song today which was Feeling Myself by Nicki Minaj. Out of the three songs we learned, this one had to be my favorite, mostly because it was a Beyonce song. Tomorrow we were getting the final statements on our placements throughout songs, and then Friday we were working mostly on perfecting it. Coach Liz hadn't said much about a Saturday practice, and I was hoping she never did. With the first game scheduled hastily for this Saturday, we were all going to be dead if we even had to practice on that day.

The cafeteria closed at ten o'clock, but we weren't the only dancers sitting around so I suppose they were just going to let us stay a bit. I was trying my hardest to pay attention to the random conversations that were being brought up, but if I wasn't dozing off, I was glancing at my phone like maniac. Despite the fact that I promised myself I wouldn't go all crazy checking my phone every minute, that's exactly what I had been doing. Monday night was a lot easier because I gave the excuse that he had practice that night. Tuesday was, eh. I was expecting a call throughout the day, and when I didn't see him in the gym while I was walking to the locker room, I thought of the excuse that maybe he's busy.

But now it was Wednesday, and still no call.

"Someone is completely out of it. You alright?" Nia asked me, as she placed a tender hand on my arm. I shook the other thoughts out of my head and faked a yawn. "Yeah, you know, tired. The usual. What were you saying?" I had all night to worry about Colby calling, even though I wasn't going to do that. It was time for me to live in the now.

"You know after this upcoming week school starts?" Alisha mentioned as she pushed her empty tray of food away from her. I glanced down at my barely eaten sandwich. I could always take it back to the dorm--I needed more food anyway. I let out a sigh at the mention of classes. "Am I the only one who thought it'd be like this forever?" I questioned, motioning to our ten o'clock date and even subliminally to the house party we had attended. Even with dance on our backs this week, college had actually been fun, and I guess the whole 'we-have-to-learn' thing kind of slipped my mind. "Trust me girl, I thought the same way. My mother asked me when classes were starting and I was like, 'they haven't started already?'" Adele cosigned.

"Well, the first semester I heard is the easiest. It's a lot of repeats from High School." Nia attempted to encourage us. "What happens when I spent most of high school not paying attention?" I muttered. Despite the fact that I was a dance major, much like the rest of the freshmen, my first semester would be spent drilling over a Biology book, a Calculus book, and some weird American Literature book as well. Even though I took both Biology and Calculus in high school, they weren't my favorite subjects, and they were definitely not the subjects I wanted to see in college.
