The sound of my phone ringing interrupted me from my deep sleep and I found myself desperate flinging my arms around in search for my phone. I didn't want to wake up Samir who was asleep on the bed next to me. My plan initially was to decline the call, silence my phone, and then go back to bed, but the caller ID read Mom and I felt obligated to answer. I quickly slid the green button, muting the phone so I had enough time to wrap myself in the comfortable robe the hotel had provided and make my way out of the hotel room. I didn't know where to go, but I knew this conversation was not something I wanted Samir to hear, and Samir was nosy as hell. I finally responded to the multiple 'hello's' I was getting from my phone when I was inside the elevator.

"Yes, sorry, I'm here." I responded, taking the phone off of mute. My mother sounded cheery, a lot more happier than she had been when we had talked a couple weeks ago. She always got this way around holiday season and Thanksgiving was definitely one of her favorite holidays. Plus, this would be one of the few times family was actually coming to our house. Usually, they'd have it in other people's house and send the invite our way (we usually didn't go most of the time), but I guess the Whitehead's wanted to do something different this time.

The elevator dinged and I exited, making my way towards the gym. I placed the key on the knob, watching as it turned green before making my way inside the humid gym.

"Hey darling, how are you? Are you in Alabama yet?" She questioned. The sound of Sade played in the background which led me to assume that she was cooking, most likely breakfast.

"Yeah, I'm in Alabama...I miss you guys," I spoke the last part hesitantly because at first I wasn't sure if I missed them. I did though--I missed my parents and their presence. Of course we didn't have your typical family relationship, but my parents had been with me for all my life and not having them around was something I had to get used to.

"We miss you too, Sage. Can we see you before Thanksgiving?" My mother questioned.

Absolutely not.

"I'll have to see. A few of my friends from high school want to link up today and I already told them I'd be there. But, I'll try and see if I can stop by," I lied, but it was better than telling her that she could absolutely not see me until Thursday evening.

"Okay, okay. Your little cousins are here and they are so excited to see you. They saw you dancing on TV the other day when Howard was playing. They were so excited they had to call me and tell me. They can't wait to see you."

Now I felt a little bad about lying to her just now, and I also felt a little bad that I could possibly ruin Thanksgiving for everyone tomorrow. I gulped, shaking the negative thoughts out of my head. I kept trying to prevent myself from thinking about the negative aspects of what I was doing, but with Thanksgiving being less than twenty four hours away, I knew that I had to come to terms with what could happen soon.
