*Chapter eleven*

I couldn't breathe. I felt as though my lungs were collapsing on themselves. The bubble I stood in had run out of oxygen. I had breathed it all in and had exhaled toxic carbon dioxide. My vision became blurry and spotty as I fell to the floor of the bubble.

I opened my eyes and breathed in cool, refreshing air. I pushed back the covers and rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. It was the middle of the night and everything was completely still. I stood and manuavered around Casey's bed hearing her quietly snore. I went to the other side of the bedroom and sat on the window seat. I looked out at the lights below, wanting to touch them and have them. But knowing that we were trapped here, I could only dream about the blue lights twinkling up at me.

I then let my mind wander to Kayla, who was probably sound asleep in her empty room down the hall. I felt bad, her mood had changed drastically and I had the feeling that this place had something to do with it.

Casey stirred and turned in her bed. I knew what we had would be a disgrace to everyone we knew, but now that we had been together for five weeks now it felt as though I couldn't even breathe without her.

Then there was the fact that we were slaves instead of actual people. They only wanted us for the powers we obtained and the people we had to kill to protect others.

I knew this was how I would probably end up being, dead. No one could predict if I would be or not but it was just the horrible feeling I had.

I had stayed up for the rest of the night thinking about the many things that could happen. I heard a yawn and feet hitting the floor. As the sun rose the beautiful blue lights began to dim away.

"Have you been up all night Mar?" Casey stood beside me and set and hand on my knee. I looked up at her. "Yes,yes I have... "I replied with sleep calling my name.

"Well you are going to have to look nice, today...today is... Today is the day we get to see the degenerates we call family!"

I was surprised by Casey's outburst and flinched a little. She went to go calm herself in the shower. I stood to go get dressed. I listened for the shower so I could get dressed so Casey wouldn't see me nude. She took really fast showers.

The shower was turned off and I could hear the ruffling of clothing. I pulled on my shirt right as the door flew open.

"Aw, did I miss something?"

"Haha Casey." I folded my arms across my chest with a frown. Casey grinned, but only for a second. She smoothed down her black shirt and weaved a belt through the loops of the light blue jeans she was wearing.

The female Nova trainees were taken to a large room with round tables scattered everywhere. I sat with Casey as the families began to trickle in. I searched for my mother and sister and found them behind Kayla's father. They made their way to our table.

I saw that Mary was wearing a beautiful wolf pendant attatched to a silver chain. My mother pursed her lips and sat down carefully. Mary sat down as if she were the most beautiful and most precious thing in the world. Soon after a woman with blonde hair and a blue dress sat across from Casey. She held a small child in her arms.

"Hello Marley, looks like you got some new changes...." My mother eyes my hair.

"Yes, and I can see something changed with my daughter too." Casey's mother scowled. Casey folded her arms and turned her head away.

"So what is it like being a Nova?"Mary spat. I shrugged. " It is cool I guess but still pretty challenging."

"I can't believe they chose you over me! I am after all more skillful, smart, and much much more beautiful then your homely self." She sneered.

Casey brought her fist down on the table." That is why you weren't chosen. Marley is much more skilled and much more worthy than you! If I had to chose who looked better I would say you are the ugliest thing I have ever seen!" My mother did nothing.

"Casey! The attitude you have gotten! Rose would be-"

"ROSE ISN'T HERE IS SHE?!?" Casey screamed. The baby in the woman's arms began wailing.

"You are a disgrace to this family young lady! I am glad your father didn't come!" Casey's mother stood and left.

"We should leave too..." My mother muttered.

" NO, I AM NOT LEAVING UNTIL I TRADE PLACES WITH MARLEY"Mary yelled.

" Well, at least you won't have to see her ever again." My mother glared daggers at me and left with Mary. This couldn't be. My mom couldn't have changes so quickly and why would she take Mary's side?

I sat there everything just becoming static and blur around me. Did she honestly not care about me anymore?

The hardest thing to take in was the fact that I had just been disowned by my family.
